Ag Agent's Report
In December, 67 dairy producers and professionals attended the
Western Wisconsin Dairy Seminar at the Coachman. Participants
learned how to identify and prevent acidosis problems. Why cows
are not milking as expected this fall was also addressed.
Milligan has over 40 St. Croix County dairy producers participating
in the 1995 Dairy Farm Business Analysis program. The first
meeting was in December. Another 20 producers will be
participating in Pierce County.
Milligan discussed the upcoming winter meeting schedule. Topics to
be addressed are ag finance, corn, soybean and forage production,
pesticide applicators training, farm recordkeeping, dairy farm
analysis, and global position systems for crop production. The
clientele groups will be farmers and agri-business professionals.
Resurce Agent's Report
Janke described the opinion surveys that have been sent to randomly
selected samples of the general public, farmers,
environmental/conservation organizaton members, and the development
industry. Janke has designed the process and is helping the
Planning Department to implement it. The surveys are to be
tabulated by UWRF students.
Janke described a service offered to manufacturing businesses in
the county. On December 6 he arranged for a UW specialist to do
literature searches on technical topics for manufacturing
businesses. Managers made appointments and Janke and the
specialist connected to a private data base through the
Internet.
4-H/Youth Agent's Report
VITA -- Reaman's VITA submitted for promotion to Associate
Professor with Tenure was reviewed by the Department Standard, Rank
and Promotion Committee. The document passed unanimously and will
be forwarded to the Divisional Standard, Rank and Promotion
Committee for review on February 7, 1996.
MN/WI Grant Update -- Lestrud, Reaman and Leifeld (MN Extension
Educator) met- with several individuals who work in the juvenile
justice field to discuss the first time juvenile offender program
which is part of the MN/WI Extension Programming Partnership Grant.
As a result of this meeting, the target audience of the program has
changed from first time juvenile offenders to students who are
truant. Follow up meetings with school officials and law
enforcement officers will help to solidify the target audience and
program content.
4-Year Plan of Work -- Reaman distributed her 4-year plan of work.
Reaman's two major programs include Developing Capable and
Responsible Youth and Enabling Youth to Deal with Violence in Their
Communities.
4-H Interstate Exchange -- St. Croix County participates in a four -
county Interstate Exchange with Pierce, Dunn and Pepin Counties.
Responsibility for coordinating the exchange rotates between these
four counties. The 1996-97 Interstate Exchange will be coordinated
by St. Croix County. Several contacts with potential host states
have been made --Pennsylvania, Texas and North Carolina. Nothing
has been confirmed.
Raymond moved to adjourn. Bethke seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
