COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING
MARCH 21, 1996
GOVERNMENT CENTER
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at
9 : 05 a.m. by Chairman, Myrtle Munns .
ROLL CALL: Members present were Larry
Weisenburger, Herb Giese, Phil Hammer, Jerome
Neumann, Lee Kellaher, Andy Germain, Clarence
Malick, Myrtle Munns, Roberta Moe, and Delores
Loock. Mary Lou Smith was excused. Also present
were Cindy Icard, Sandy Gehrmann, Jonna Fedie, Elma
Liberty, Carol Gorke, Donna Zacharias, Jean VandeBerg,
Lorraine Jacobs, Peggy Patterson, Janice Thompson,
Sharon Smith, Elinor Nelson, and Ralph Bader.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by
Andy Germain and seconded by Larry Weisenburger to
adopt the agenda; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be
April 18, 1996.
ACTION ON PREVIOUS 'ES: A motion was
made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Herb
Giese to accept February minutes as printed.
UNFINISHED BUSMSS:
Home -Delivered Meal Video: A video was shown with
a Home -Delivered Meal participant who was also a
former Department on Aging driver while employed, he
delivered approximately 50,000 meals in 14 years. The
video demonstrated how important the meals are to keep
people in their homes.
Food Contracts: CCH will now be getting $3.25 per
meal for the Hudson Nutrition Site meals. It will be
retroactive back to January 1, 1996. Discussion on the
Hudson Hospital preparing and delivering the Home -
Delivered Meals for the Hudson area. This would free
the Hudson driver to bring more people to the Nutrition
Site. The census of the Council was to try this and if it
did not work, give them a one month notice.
Aging Network Changes: NAPIS description was
reviewed. Discussion centered on proposed Network
changes. It looks like the Older Americans Act will be
reauthorized. If this happens, it will be reauthorized for
five (5) years. A letter was read from the Director of
Administration on Aging in Washington D.C. The
Federal money is budgeted at a reduced level through
September ' 96 . III F is still unfunded. Due to is
elimination, the Visually Impaired Outreach Program and
Stroke Club are no longer in existence until funding is
available. Department on Aging Programs are the first
step in long term care.
Fundraisers: The deadline for T-shirt orders will be
Thursday, April 18th . The programs will get $3.50 per
shirt. The Current fundraiser was discussed and will not
be done at this time. The Office has received alot of
recipes for the new cook book.
NEW BUSEWSS:
Grant Updates: In the last 12-month period, the
Department on Aging has received $52, 250 from Private
Foundation Grants. A letter from Jim Soos, a Project
Manager .of the Brookdale Foundation was read. The
second year of funding was approved for DayAway--
$3 , 000 . Received $13 , 850 from the Helen Bader
Foundation.
Suggested Donations: The Council discussed putting a
suggested donation on the congregate meals. Instead it
was suggested that Sandy go out to each nutrition site,
with a presentation and hand out to the participants,
during May --Older American's Month.
Staff Reports:
Correspondence was read.
A Certificate of Appreciation was given to Jerry Neumann
for his contribution to the Department on Aging while he
was on the Council.
Sharon Smith demonstrated the new emergency "Heater
Meals". The Department on Aging received a $500 grant
from Reynolds Metal Co. This grant was used to
purchase the "Heater Meals".
Hudson Public Access talked to Sandy Gehrmann about
having a "Senior Updates" program on the local cable
channel. If anyone is interested or knows of someone
willing to help, call the office.
Sample letters to County Clergy and Physicians were
distributed. The letters regard the health and well-being
of seniors. They will go out when the office gets the new
telephone numbers.

Sites will be
closed
on April 30th due to
the Volunteer
Appreciation
Dinner
at Garfields
.
Senior Citizen day will be May 30th at WITC .
The Centers are to call on Mondays to the Center that is
hosting the Card Tournament that week to order the
meals.
A motion was made by Clarence Malick and seconded by
Andy Germain to co-sponsor the Long Term Support
Planning meeting; motion carried.
SITEXENTER REPORTS:
DEER PARK: Volunteers are delivering meals in Star
Prairie. Easter Party is being planned.
GLENWOOD CITY: Playing Bingo on Tuesdays now.
Planning coloring Easter eggs and party.
BALDVVIN: There was a article in the Baldwin Paper
regarding the new community center. Had a St. Pats and
Birthday Party. Show and Tell days are very successful.
HUDSON: Osceola Train Trip is being planned. The
Center Board may hire someone to keep Center open for
special activities.
NEW RICHMOND: Exercising on Mondays. On
March 28th a Home Safety Presentation is scheduled.
AARP meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 1:00
p.m.
SOMERSET: A Spring Fling Party and Easter Egg Hunt
is being planned. The Center is discussing helping the
town get an air conditioning unit in the Village Hall.
WOODVILLE: Snow birds are coming back. Tuesday
and Wednesdays playing cards and Bingo.
A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded
by Andy Germain to adjourn meeting at 11: 40 a.m.;
motion carried.
