CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at
9:05 a.m. by Vice Chairman, Herb Giese.
ROLL CALL: Members present were Larry
Weisenburger, Herb Giese, Lee Kellaher, Andy Germain,
Roberta. Moe, John Mortensen, Mary Lou Smith, and
Delores Loock. Phil Hammer, Ethel Peterson, and
Myrtle Munns were excused. Also present were Cindy
Icard, Sandy Gehrmann, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell,
Carol Gorke, Jean VandeBerg, Lorraine Jacobs, Donna
Zacharias, Peggy Patterson, Elma Liberty, Kathryn
Grootenhuis, Lola Fouks, Virginia Peterson, and Carol
Keller.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by
Lee Kellaher and seconded by John Mortensen to adopt
the agenda with an addition of the Nominating Committee
report; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be
August 15, 1996.
ACTION ON PREVIOUS M NUTES: A motion was
made by John Mortensen and seconded by Lee Kellaher
to accept May minutes as printed; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Fundraisers: The 2,000 cookbooks will be here today.
The books were purchased for $1.91 each. A motion was
made by John Mortensen and seconded by Larry
Weisenburger to sell the cookbooks for $7.50 with the
profits going to the Nutrition Trust Account; motion
carried. Human -I -Tees has new products coming out in
September. We cleared 130.00 on last sale. If we would
do this the proceeds would go to DayAway. Andy
Germain said that he will check with a place in Somerset
that does t-shirts and hats to see if they would be
interested in doing a fundraiser with us. Hospitality Pacs
will sell for $20.00 for Jumbo, $16.00 for medium, and
$13.00 for small. The Fundraiser Program will receive
$4.00 on each sold. Another possible fundraiser would
be selling M & M's for the Faith In Action Program. We
would sell each box for a $1.00 and would keep 35C.
The consensus of the Council was to go ahead with this.
At the County Fair we will be selling popcorn, juice,
Hospitality Pacs, picture buttons, and cookbooks.
NEW BUSINESS:
Nominating Committee Report: Lee Kellaher nominated
Herb Giese as Chairman and Andy Germain as Vice
Chairman.
Election of Officers: Nominations were called three
times from the floor. The third time Andy Germain
nominated John Mortensen as Vice Chairman. A motion
was made by Mary Lou Smith and seconded by Delores
Loock to accept the nominations of Herb Giese as
Chairman and John Mortensen as Vice Chairman; motion
carried.
Senior Statesmanship Reports: Carol Keller and Lola
Fonks: Thank you letters were read from Carol and Lola
for their trip to the Senior Statesmanship in Madison.
They shared what was discussed at their meetings and
materials that were given.
Leadership Training: All Board members and staff need
to attend the training on Wednesday, September llth
from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. Bob Boche will discuss County
Government and Barb Thoni will do a presentation on
"How to Advocate for What You Need".
Staff Reports:
A Certificate of Appreciation was given to Jean
VandeBerg for her support to the Nutrition Program. She
is going to retire the end of July from the Woodville
Nutrition Site. Virginia Peterson will replace her.
A handout was distributed on the percentage of
Wisconsin's 75+ population and 75+ low-income
population. St. Croix County has a small percentage of
elderly people over age 75, but 15-20 % of them have
incomes below the poverty level.
NAPIS reports are still being done by hand. The second
quarter nutrition and transportation statistics were
discussed.
On October 4th staff will be expected to attend training at
WITC from 8:30-3:30. Topics will be dementia, elder
abuse, communication, listening, confidentiality, and
ethical issues. This is a certificate program.
The Fund Statement from the '95 Audit was discussed.
The Center Board Coalition met at 8:30 this morning
regarding the United Way request.
A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by
John Mortensen to approve New Richmond and Glenwood
City out of County van trips; motion carried.
SITE/CENTER REPORTS:
DEER PARK: Participants will be going to Eau Claire.
Participants have been working on their display for the
County Fair.
GLENWOOD CITY: Bingo is going well. The Center
is planning the 2nd Annual Salad Luncheon on August
16th.
BALDWIN: Diners are playing cards and Bingo. They
have a Show and Tell Day. Participants are looking
forward to going to the County Fair. Thrift Sale is
August 1 st.
HUDSON: Videos are shown every Monday. Queen
and King will be in the Pepper Fest parade. On August
1st, there will be a day trip to Osceola. Rolling Hills 4-H
Club will perform at Center.
NEW RICHMOND: The Center cleared $604.00 at the
brat stand. Augusta trip is being planned. There is
interest in card recycling program.
SOMERSET: Air Conditioning is in Senior Center and
working well. They had an Anniversary Party and two
magicians performed. The Auxiliary donated a flag.
WOODVILLE: Playing Bingo and 500. On August 9th
a Salad Luncheon is being planned. A Bingo machine
was donated.
A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by
Larry Weisenburger to adjourn meeting at 11: 30 a.m. ;
motion carried.
