ANNOUNCEMENTS & CORRESPONDENCE POSSIBLE AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING: ADJOURNMENT (Agenda not necessarily presented in this order) SUBMITTED BY: R. W. Thompson DATE: 03-27-97 COPIES TO: County Clerk News Media/Notice Board Committee Members St Croix County Traffic Safety Commission meeting was held April 9, 1997 at the Sheriff Department in Hudson at 1:30 p.m. Present were: Charles Grant, Art Jensen, Heidi Habel, Brian Erickson, Steve Schofield, Brent Pickard, Roland Thompson, Greg Helgeson and Dolores FOrd. Meeting called to order by Chairman Thompson. Motion to adopt agenda approved. Motion to accept minutes of the January 8, 1997 meeting was made, seconded and approved. Old Business: Discussion on the laws governing illegally passing of school buses. The difference between Minnesota law and Wisconsin law causes some confusion. Law pending that may change some of the rules and strobe lights may be required by the year 2000. New Business: USH 12 highway construction will be going soon from Hudson to Baldwin -- and some east of Baldwin. Detours will be used in some areas. Our Speed Wave program is off to a slow start because of the weather, but will be busy in May, June, July and August. The Safe and Sober Campaign does not involve over time. With the grant we had a speed board built to use around the county. This does help in reducing speeders. Mr. Thompson does a survey to determine seat belt usage at various locations. Underage Party Elimination Program is being coordinated with the Somerset Police Department. There will be public awareness programs plus the law enforcement. Mr. Helgeson stated that signs have been posted along STH 35 regarding school bus travel. The State checked the speed along USH 63 and felt that the speed of 50 mph was satisfactory limit. There have been no excessive amount of accidents within this area. They will be keeping a watch and keep checking the speeds. Discussion on our recent fatal accident. Mr. Pickard distributed literature on traffic safety update, a manual for Safer Roadways, discussed a proposed .08% rather than the current .10% on DWI's. We viewed a VCR tape on T.S.C. It was announced that the Governor's Council on Highway Safety will be held June 24th & 25th in Appleton. Motion made and seconded to adjourn. Carried. Respectfully submitted, Dolores Ford
