ST. R�.J►9, �'w '° �..1NTY RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO INCREASE FUNDING
TO COUNTY VETERAN SERVICE OFFICER GRANT
1 WHEREAS, the Wisconsin State Legislature resolved in 1973 to create a block grant
2 system through which the Counties of Wisconsin could seek fiscal support based on county
3 population and full-time employment of County Veteran Service Officers, and
4
5 WHEREAS, current funding for the St. Croix County Veteran Service Office is funded
6 almost entirely by the county and has not been increased by the State of Wisconsin since 1979;
7 and
8
9 WHEREAS,in the 2020 budget for the St. Croix County Veteran Service Office is
10 $286,392 of which $269,392 or roughly 94% is funded by local tax levy with the balance of
11 approximately $17,000 funding through state grants; and

13 WHEREAS, according to 2018 Veterans Affairs data, St. Croix County has an estimated
14 5,314 veterans and VA expenditures for the same year equal in excess of$38 million to St. Croix
15 County; and
16
17 WHEREAS,if funded the St. Croix County Veteran Service Office recommends the
18 additional grant funds be used to serve veterans of St. Croix County by supplementing
19 transportation& program development, staff development, outreach and other necessary budget
20 items vital in providing services to veterans in Wisconsin; and

22 WHEREAS,that the County of St. Croix joins other counties in the State of Wisconsin,
23 to express their desire to the Wisconsin State Legislature to have the County Veterans Service
24 Office Grant increased to continue providing services to Wisconsin veterans as costs for services
25 and training increase.

27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Croix County Board of
28 Supervisors supports State and Federal legislation that would bring additional funding to the
29 County Veteran Service Offices of Wisconsin to serve St. Croix County veterans.

31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors directs
32 the County Clerk to forward a copy of this resolution to the office of the Wisconsin Governor,
33 the office of Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, St. Croix County Legislators, and
34 Wisconsin Counties Association.
