Adjourned: 10:40 am Present: Gene Ruetz, Bill Peavey, Linda Luckey, Richard Marzolf, Dan Raebel, Pete Kling, Joan Sprain, Marie Witzel, Ruth Hilfiker. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ruetz. Date of next meeting was set for March 2, 2010. Peavey moved for approval of vouchers. Raebel seconded the motion. Motion carried Raebel moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Marzolf seconded the motion. Motion carried. Administrative Discussion was held regarding the vacancy in the Agriculture Agent position. Raebel moved that we support the filling of the vacancy. Luckey seconded the motion. Motion carried. The committee discussed a salary range of $40,000 to $55,000 which would result in a salary savings for the county. All costs for filling the position are covered by UW- Extension, other than Committee members per diem for attending the final interviews. Kling shared a needs assessment process to help evaluate what is needed for the position. St. Croix County Planning & Zoning, UW- Extension, and Land & Water Conservation Departments are updating the county farmland preservation plan, which includes workshops and round table discussions to get input. A similar process could be used to conduct a needs assessment for the Agriculture Agent position. Committee members were favorable to this idea and agreed to host a round table discussion in each of their districts. The intern working with Sprain will do some work related to agriculture with her Dairy Science Degree, under the direction of staff working in agriculture. Deb Jones thanked the committee for their support. The Committee thanked her for sharing her tribute to Lee Milligan. Peavey moved to re -hire the person hired as the 2009 Summer Fair Office Assistant for the 2010 position. The money is in the budget. Raebel seconded the motion. Motion carried. 1 Ruetz volunteered to participate in the 4 -H Summer Assistant interviews on March 19, 2010 from 10 am to noon. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Richard Marzolf Secretary 2
