ST C RQ RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING TEMPORARY ADDITIONAL
COMPENSATION FOR THE ASSISTANT COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR
1 WHEREAS, current St. Croix County Administrator, Patrick Thompson, has submitted
2 his letter of resignation and retirement, effective August 18, 2020; and
3
4 WHEREAS, St. Croix County established a temporary succession policy in January of
5 2019 which provides that in the case of a vacancy, the Assistant County Administrator shall act
6 as the County Administrator and perform all duties of such office, until such time as the St.
7 Croix County Board of Supervisors appoints a successor; and
8
9 WHEREAS, the Board has authorized the Administration Committee to engage a
10 governmental executive search firm to assist the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors in
11 finding a qualified successor; and
12
13 WHEREAS, the Assistant County Administrator salary is set on the 2020 St. Croix
14 County Wage Grid at pay grade 76, step 8, or $133,158 annually; and
15
16 WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Administrator position salary is established at pay
17 grade 90 of the 2020 St. Croix County Wage Grid; and
18
19 WHEREAS,it is in the best interest of St. Croix County to adequately compensate the
20 Assistant County Administrator, who will assume extra and additional duties during the
21 recruitment of a successor County Administrator.

23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in the absence of a permanent County
24 Administrator, Ken Witt, acting St. Croix County Administrator, shall be compensated at pay
25 grade 90, step 2 ($145,632 annually)from August 19, 2020 until such time as a successor
26 County Administrator is appointed.

Fiscal Impact: There will be a financial impact estimated at$5,800 based on projected timeline, but
will be offset by projected net savings of$49,500 from the vacant County
Administrator position.
