BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Reserve/Auxiliary Deputy rate has been frozen at $18.10 since 2013. This budget
amendment would increase the rate to $21.53, representing 75% of the Primary Service Deputy
rate for 2021. Actual hours of usage remains well under budgeted levels, so the increase should
not create a budget issue for the Sheriff's Office. The budget amendment add the
Reserve/Auxilary Deputy pay to the special pays list in the budget.

1 WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors adopted the 2021 County
2 Budget on November 3, 2020; and

4 WHEREAS, page 22 of the Adopted St. Croix County 2021 Budget list Additional
5 Compensation Categories; and
6
7 WHEREAS, the compensation rate for Reserve/Auxiliary Deputies is not listed in the
8 additional compensation categories or in any other documentation by the County; and
9
10 WHEREAS, the Reserve/Auxiliary Deputy compensation has been fixed at$18.10 per
11 hour since 2013 and budgeted for 3310 hours; and
12
13 WHEREAS, the Reserve/Auxiliary Deputy compensation had historically been at 75%
14 of the starting rate of a Primary Service Deputy prior to 2013; and
15
16 WHEREAS, increasing the rate to 75% of the Primary Service Deputy (2021 $28.70)
17 equals $21.53, an increase of 19%; and
18
19 WHEREAS, increasing the Reserve/Auxiliary Deputy rate from $18.10 to $21.53 will
20 increase the total expected expenses from $59,904 to $71,264; and
21
22 WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Office has budgeted $3,663,374 for 2021 salaries and the
23 increase for Reserve/Auxiliary Deputies impacts the line item by 3/1Oths of 1%, which the
24 Sheriff's Office would absorb within its budget.

26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Croix County Board of
27 Supervisors does hereby authorize amendment number 1 of the 2021 County Budget, page 22, to
28 add Reserve/Auxiliary Deputies with an hourly rate of$21.53 as an additional compensation
29 category.
