St Croix County Traffic Safety Commission meeting held June 11, 1996 at
1:30 p.m. in the Government Center.
Present: Joseph Gustafson, Doris Peterson, Jim Harer, Max Ihrke, Heidi Habel,
Donald Johnson, Willard Jochimsen, Art Jensen, Roland Thompson, Dolores Ford,
and Miles Wittig.
Meeting was called to order by Chairman R. Thompson. Motion to adopt agenda
made and approved.
August 13, 1996 is the next scheduled meeting.
Motion to approve minutes of the March 5th meeting was made and approved.
Old BUsiness:
CTH F south of CTH MM. This has been checked out and everything is
signed as it should be.
Flashing lights and other small changes have been made at the USH 12
and STH 128 intersection. The major construction for this area is expected
to take place next year.
New Business:
CTH T and 170th AV (not street). Jim Harer has checked this out and
believes the signing, etc. to be up to code and there is no real problem
with sight distance.
In the Village of Deer Park there is concern with the distance in the speed
zone. Would like a '45' buffer at the north of the village before getting
to the '30' zone. Would also like the zoning changed to the south. Jake
will check into this for us.
School Bus Violation.
Seem to be having more complaints of vehicles passing stopped school buses.
Have had several in the area along STH 35-- in a 55 mph zone. Thompson had
met with the Hudson bus company, drivers and parents to discuss the proper
use of the stop arm, etc. Believe the procedure in Minnesota is different
which may cause some confusion on the part of Minnesota drivers. There will
be a special effort in the fall before school starts to inform the public of
the laws.
Discussed the Speed Wave, Corridor Safety and Safe and Sober programs that the
Sheriff Department is participating in through Highway Safety Grants.
Other subjects mentioned: Bicyclists not observing traffic laws, i.e. not
stopping at stop signs. The traffic congestion in Somerset during the concert.
Another concert is scheduled for July 6th. Doris mentioned the upcoming Governor's
Conference and Farm Progress Days (which will be held July 16,17 & 18 around
Wausau. Joe distributed information fact sheet on accidents in the State.
Motion to adjourn, seconded and carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Dolores Ford
