Standafer stated that this hearing was to retain facts on the
composition of the Board of Adjustments. No action will be taken
by this committee. The facts will be reported to the full County
Board.
First Witness: John Bradley
John stated that he sees that this board is a five man body that is
quasi-judicial. Their appeals are only in court and not on the
County Board floor. He also wants the board to be removed from the
political arena. The board is appealable to the courts. The board
acts on ordinances and judges ordinances. He also stated that he
wanted to have a majority of the Board of Adjustments be citizen
members. This would help insure that it would be out of the
political arena. It has been two years since the last request was
submitted for change. John submitted information obtained from
County Clerks throughout Wisconsin showing the percentage of board
supervisors and citizen members that make up the Board of
Adjustments. Largest majority of those contacted have citizen
members only.
