Berenschot seconded the motion. Motion carried. Berenschot moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved.. _Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. Jensen moved that the vouchers be approved. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. Administrative Report UWEX Budget - No action on state budget so UW Extension budget has not been finalized. St. Croix County Budget -Budget has been submitted and early feedback indicates that all budget items are reasonable. The budget review dates have been re -scheduled for September 29' and 30. 4-H Youth Development Report The Wisconsin Promise: A statewide summit on volunteerism for youth. County -wide news releases promoting the opportunity have been submitted to all local papers. Special invitations will also be sent to targeted organizations that work with youth (i.e. Boy/Girl Scouts, YMCA, etc.). A delegation of 10 will be selected to attend the summit from St. Croix County. County Fair Exhibit Report: Final results are not yet available. Anticipate they will be completed and balanced by the end of the week. County Activities: Thirty Cloverbuds and Explorers (2nd & 3rd Graders) participated in the county- wide day camp organized by the Summer Assistant. Activities offered were: nature, crafts, foods and large group games. 1 Good representation of St. Croix County members attended the Wisconsin State Fair in dairy, dairy judging, sheep, tractor driving, clothing, demonstrations and music. The Dairy Judging Team placed third and Sarah Zwald placed 6th individually. That placing made her eligible for the National Youth Dairy Judging Contest in Louisville, Kentucky in November. Reaman chaperoned the 441 Junior Leaders camp out at Rivers Edge in Somerset. Ag Agent's Report Farm City Day was attended by approximately 2400 - 2500 people. Milligan coordinated the tours and taught the tour guides. Milligan also developed additional educational exhibits. The corn silage plot at Jon -De Farms will be harvested in September. The starter fertilizer corn plot at Henderson -Erickson Farms will be harvested in October. The development of a Master Gardener Association between Pierce and St. Croix Counties is progressing. Milligan is helping them develop bylaws and a slate of officers. Milligan shared land rental rate stuvey data with the ag lenders in Pierce and St. Croix Counties. Milligan shared crop management information at the recent CRP meetings. Milligan and Extension Specialists have been working with a couple of dairy and swine producers in developing expansion or new enterprise plans. Considerable time has been devoted by Milligan to farm management, expansion, dairy nutrition, crop management, and animal housing issues. Famil Living Report Lestrud discussed several activities which took place during the summer months. The Master Food Preserver training was held at the Baldwin Ag Center and trained 20 volunteers in a 3-day effort. The volunteers are now knowledgeable about food safety and food preservation and can answer phone questions from the public as well as present programs. 4-11 clothing camp was agrant-supported effort which included 34 youth and 18 adult helpers at a one -day workshop teaching boys and girls how to sew. This event improved participation in the 4-H Clothing Project. The 4-1-1 Foods Fair included all the St. Croix County Fair 4-H food judging as well as the 4-H Foods Revue and educational interactive exhibits. Communities that Care received another $25,000 grant which Lestrud wrote and manages. Many projects which focus on building youth assets and strengthening families are made possible through the grant. A family camp for at -risk and limited income families is being held October 10 - 12 at Camp Icaghowan in Amery. The purpose is to help families build on their strengths and bond as a family unit. Lestrud is currently coordinating a 40-week newspaper series written by community professionals and others on youth asset building. HCE activities include a state meeting which Lestrud will be attending with 13 county members and a leader training lesson in October which Lestrud will teach on the topic of lifelong well being. The big annual Reading Festival will also take place in October. Resource Agent Report Janke reported that two days of small business management counseling are scheduled in September. All five appointment slots are filled for September 4. Two time slots are already filled for September 30. The New Richmond Chamber of Commerce has decided to ga ahead with the community improvement planning sessi nions that Janke described last month. Three sessions are scheduled in September and October. Janke distributed copies of a newspaper article from the New Richmond News that was very positive about Extension's approach to working with communities. Publicity for the agricultural clean sweep collection has gone out. A brochure was mailed directly to all farmers. Additional publicity has been sent to the newspapers. Planning Department Report Fodroczi reviewed a list of August vouchers totalling $150.36. Raymond moved that the vouchers be approved as presented. Jensen seconded the motion. Motion carried. Western Wisconsin Recvcling Association Contract• Fodroczi introduced Dean Swenson, Executive Director, and Mary Barney, Recycling Technician, from the Western Wisconsin Recycling Association. The Association began providing staff services for the County Recycling Program as of September 1st. Swenson gave an overview of the Association's history, mission and obiectives for its work in St. Croix County. He introduced Barney as the principal staff person for the project to be located in the Planning Department in the Government Center. Committee members commented on the Committee's objectives and welcomed Swenson and Barney. 3 Hazardous Waste Pro ram• Barney gave an update on preparation for the program on September 20th. Posters and press releases have been distributed. Letters were sent to 9 county businesses with hazardous waste problems identified by the DNR. The program banner is up in North Hudson over State Highway 35, and the "Your Wasteline" newsletter will be distributed the week of September 8th. Committee members were encouraged to stop in at either of the sites during the program. Berenschot moved to adjourn. Raymond seconded the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
