' COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING FEBRUARY 209 1997 GOVERNMENT CENTER CALL TO ORDER: The in was called to order at 9 : 08 a.m. by Chairman, Herb Giese, ROLL CALL: Members present Ralph Bader, Roberta Moe, Mary Loock, Lee Kellaher, Ethel were Herb Giese, o Lu Smith, Delores Peterson, Larry and An Germain. John Mortensen was excused. Also present were Cindy Icard, Sandy Gehrmann, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell, Donna Zacharias, Virginia Peterson, Shirley Marlette, Lorraine Jacobs, Elma Liberty, Kathryn Grootenhuis, Norm Reiss, Mary Wright, and Martha Mabis . WeisenburgerIrene Inlow A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy Germain to adopt the agenda; motion carried. The next meeting will be March 20, 1997 at 9 : 00 a . m . ACTION ON PREVIOUS ES: A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Lee Kellaher to approve the January 14th minutes as printed; motion carried. Sandy thanked all for the support she received when she had her surgery. Long 'Perm Care Redesign: Handout was distributed. Barb Blaisdell gave a detailed report on what was discussed at a State Long Term Care Redesign meeting. Aging Units are being considered as Resource Centers because they do many of the services already. The State is looking at eight (8) different plans, Time line again discussed. NEW BUSII�TESS: American Heart Month Report : Many handouts distributed regarding American Heart Month. �ceuort/Keauest -Martha Mabis: Martha is the Family Nutrition Program Educator in St. Croix County. She did a presentation on what she has done in the last year. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy Germain to authorize $600.00 for nutrition education Martha will be doing at the seven (7) nutrition sites throughout the year; motion carried. Staff Re orts: A list of our State Representatives was dispersed. Two part-time drivers have been hired. Representatives from the Center Boards need to attend United Way Meetings either on February 27th or March 4th. The Federal 1998 Budget was discussed. The Congregate Nutrition Program could have a 5 % cut and the Home - Delivered Meal Program could have a 5 % increase. A Reverse Mortgage Seminar has been scheduled for Thursday, April 10th at 1: 00 p.m. If anyone has any questions they can contact Sue Kramer, The Volunteer Recognition has been scheduled for April 17th at Gariields . Senior Day will be at WITC on May 15th. Nutrition Site comparisons from 1995 to 1996 The Faith In Action program has a new fundraiser - Easter lambs . ►Jl 1 L/ l,L' l�l 1 LK .KLi YVK 1►J: DEER PARK: Larry Weisenburger gave a review from United Way meeting, GLENWOOD CITY: Participants enjoy playing Bingo. AARP is doing taxes. Glenhaven residents came to site to eat. Had Retired Teachers Day and Valentine Party. A Day To Remember is next week. There are two new Center Board Members. BALDWIN. The St. Patrick's Dance will be March 14th at 8:00 p.m. with a Potato Bar Supper before. Crowned a new Valentine King and Queen. The Center is working on fundraising for new site. HUDSON. The Center Board has two new board members.* Crowned a new King and Queen at Valentine Party. Participants enjoy playing Bingo on Wednesdays and Thursdays . The Center Board is joining the Association of Senior Centers. NEW RICHMOND: Green Thumb worker started on Monday. AARP meeting on Tuesday. Martha Mabis will be doing a presentation on March 3rd. Participants have scheduled a day at the Amery Senior Center. SOMERSET: Had a Valentine Party on February 13th. The Happy Grannies performed. Planning Easter Jell Bean Contest. WOODVILLE.* AARP is coming to do blood pressure every month. Planning a " Y taxes . Doing Florida Fling" Party In March. The Center Board did a drawing for free dinner tickets at the Valentine Party. Bingo is on Tuesdays and 500 on Wednesdays. Participants doing SCAN labels. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Delores Loock to adjourn meeting at 11:10 a.m.; motion carried.
