ROLL CALL: Members present were Herb Giese, Phil Hammer, Andy Germain, Larry Weisenburger, Lee Kellaher, Irene Inlow, Mary Lou Smith, John Mortensen, Ann Healy, and Jean Schroeder. Roberta Moe was excused. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Cindy Icard, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell, Shirley Marlette, Janice Thompson, Elma Liberty, Ethel Peterson, Gladys Ellefson, Donna Zacharias, Lorraine Jacobs, Peggy Patterson, and Bonnie Brande. • A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Andy Germain to adopt the agenda; motion carried The next meeting will be September 18, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. made by Phil Hammer and seconded by to approve the July 1'7th minutes as carried. F A motion was John Mortensen printed; motion ign: St. Croix County is sending in a pilot application. Aging would do the information and assistance, outreach, public information, and options counselling. The State is saying "there is no need to reorganize" . Redesign is a process, not a place, and agencies do not have to be under one roof. Assessments will take place in facilities or individual's homes. ECHO Fiscal Re orting: Salary and fringes were done manually and the second quarter is done. The Finance Department has been working on payroll conversions but the ECHO system is not working. There is no one now trained in ECHO. No one seems to know if this system will be around in 1998. lyy� l;ounty Ylan/Budget: The 1998 Budget request was distributed. The Budget Program that Annette Massie from Computer Services developed was fantastic. Each program was individually discussed. There is a $5, 345 increase in the County Fund request. The Finance Committee Policy is 0 % increase. Discussion centered on accepting the budget with this nominal increase. A motion was made by Lee Kellaher and seconded by Andy Germain to approve the 1998 Budget in a Two Year Block Grant Concept with a nominal increase because of the uncertainty with State and Federal allocations; motion carried. A plaque was presented was given Sandy Gehrmann for her twenty service. by Herb Giese to years of dedicated NEW BUSINESS: Leadership Training: The Leadership Public Hearing is scheduled on Thursday, from 19.30 - 4 0.30 p.m. at the Government Janke will be the keynote speaker. Training and October 2nd C enter. Jim Staff Reports: A letter was read from the City of River Falls regarding the River Falls Shared Ride Taxi. They are requesting $2500 in 1998. They received $2100 in 1997. This issue will be brought up in November, 1997 to see how much is left in the budget. The Council reviewed the letter after the 1998 Budget was approved. A request from Maple Manor Residents to use the New Richmond based van to go to Willow River State Park was presented. Maple Manor would be charged 50C per mile and the cost of the Department on Aging Driver. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by John Mortensen to approve the use of the New Richmond based van to go to Willow River State Park; motion carried. The Department on Aging Programs cleared $619.00 from fundraisers at the St. Croix County Fair. The Faith In Action and DayAway Programs are planning a Silent Auction/Meatball Dinner on September 19th from 1: 00 - 8 0 00 p . m . at the Baldwin Community Center. A motion was made by Andy Germain and seconded by Lee Kellaher to approve Sandy's participation in a panel at the Minnesota State Information and Referral Annual Conference in Shakopee. She will be a presenter if she can work it into her schedule. Congressmen Kind sent a letter in response to the unique Paper Plate Drive. Senator Feingold's Office called and said it was terrific. Participants planned a trip to Stillwater to the Grand Theatre. The freezer needs to be repaired again. GLENWOOD CITY: Had a Salad Luncheon on August 8th. Staff and participants were pleased with the County Fair. Old Log Theatre was enjoyed by thirteen (13) people. BALDWM: The Open House will be September 5th and 6th . The Ethnic Breakfast was a success. They play cards on Mondays and BINGO on Tuesdays. Appreciation dinner was attended by over one hundred (100) people. The Center received $1,000 from Lan&O- Lakes Foundation Grant. HUDSON: People are playing Bridge on Tuesdays. The Red Cross will be at the Center on August 25th for a blood drive. The van is scheduled to go to River Falls for shopping and the Auction/Meatball Dinner in Baldwin. Volunteers worked at Pepper Fest. NEW RICHMOND: The County Fair display won a Blue Ribbon. Baby Picture Contest was enjoyed by all. The Center made $450 at the brat stand, $370 at the Garage Sale, and $130 on a raffle. SONMRSET: Martha Mabis came to the Center yesterday. Pan Handlers come to practice once a week. WOODVILLE: Participants went to New Richmond for a movie. Martha Mabis came to the Site. The Senior Center Board is doing some reorganization. A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy Germain to approve all out of County trips and that all site vans may attend the Auction/Meatball Dinner on September 19th; motion carried.
