COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING
SEPTEMBER 189 1997
GOVERNMENT CENTER
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at
9:05 a.m. by Chairman, Herb Giese.
ROLL CALL: Members present were Herb Giese, Phil
Hammer, Andy Germain, Larry Weisenburger, Lee
Kellaher, Mary Lou Smith, John Mortensen, Ann Healy,
Roberta Moe, and Jean Schroeder. Irene Inlow was
absent. Also present were Sandy Gehrmann, Cindy
Icard, Jonna Fedie, Barb Blaisdell, Shirley Marlette,
Janice Thompson, Elma Liberty, Gladys Ellefson, Donna
Zacharias, Peggy Patterson, Joanne Matysik, and Bonnie
Brande.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by
Andy Germain and seconded by Larry Weisenburger to
adopt the agenda; motion carried
DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be
October 16, 1997 at 9:00 a.m.
ACTION ON PREVIOUS ES: A motion was
made by John Mortensen and seconded by Andy Germain
to approve the August 21 st minutes as printed; motion
carried.
• Sandy received a fax from
Washington D.C. confirming a Senate vote of 97 to 0 to
add $40 million to the Older Americans Act funding.
This would mean approximately $6,100 more for the St.
Croix County Department on Aging and we would not
need to ask for additional funding from the County in
1998. If the proposed increase is not appropriated, Sandy
could go back to Finance with a request at a later date.
Long Term Care Redesign: The application for the St.
Croix County Pilot was sent in on September 1st. A
handout was distributed on the IRIS Computer Program
to be used for Information and Assistance. A motion was
made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded by Andy
Germain to purchase the IRIS Multi User Version; motion
carried. The $3,500 would come out of the two Trust
Accounts. The Office will talk to the Computer Services
Department to get feedback from them on the program.
A sample brochure was distributed from the Milwaukee
County Department on Aging.
�W BUSINESS:
Fundraisers: The Meatball Dinner/Silent Auction will be
held tomorrow night at the Baldwin Community Center.
A form that lists all items for the Silent Auction was
disbursed. On Monday from 4900 - 8 * 00 p.m. a "Share
Night" will be held at Shoneys in Hudson and 10 % of bill
will be donated to the Faith In Action Program.

Joanne Matysik did a report on the Senior Statesman
Graduate Program held in Madison.
Staff Reports:
A thank -you card was received for Department on Aging
participation at Farm City Days.
The Home -Delivered Meal Holiday cards were discussed.
A minimum order would be 500 cards. Each card would
cost us 200. They would be sold for $5.00 per card.
The Council voted not to do this fundraiser.
"Myths of Aging, How Do You Score?" out of Parent
Care Advisor magazine was distributed and discussed.
Barb went to the American Cancer
morning. The Council looked at

The Aging &Handicapped Transportation Committee is
looking for new members from the areas of Hudson and
Somerset. The Committee has started a Department of
Transportation Grant for a new vehicle.
The City of .River Falls. is applying for a new vehicle.
The Center Board Coalition of St. Croix County will have
a meeting on November Wth at 9: 30 a.m.
DEER PARK: Janice went to a church meeting and
received two donations for the Faith In Action Program.
Martha Mabis did a presentation. A painting and quilt
were donated for the Fall Quilt Raffle. Participants are
shopping trip to Hudson. Janice got quotes of
planning a
750 for black & white and $1.00 color for the printing of
the Center Board brochures.
GLENWOOD CITY: Martha Mabis is scheduled to do
a presentation. Participants are requesting a Foot Care
Clinic. People are bringing in their collectibles for a
display and planning to go out to eat on Sunday. Played
Vegetable/Fruit BINGO. A Leaf Trip is scheduled on
October 3rd.
BALDWIN: The Open House was September 5th and
6th with 590 people attending. Donna thanked all the
Senior Centers for the donation of pictures for the walls.
Participants plan to go to Shoneys for Faith In Action
Fundraiser. Greeting card sales are going well.
HITDSON: The monthly Birthday Party was held. Next
Thursday there will be a Blood Drive and on Saturday,
October 1st, a picnic is scheduled at Willow River State
Park. The Centers new computer should arrive next
month.
NEW RICHMOND: Last Friday people went to the
Rustic Hut for lunch and next Friday Cindy will bring a
van load of people to the Meatball Dinner/Auction. A
Leaf/Shopping trip and Thank -You Day are being
planned. The Center purchased new seasonal table
settings .
SONMRSET: There will be picnic today. Video Day
was on Wednesday. Coffee Clutch is going well.
WOODVILLE: Cards and BINGO are being played.
People are donating items from their gardens . On
Tuesday, the Panhandlers are coming to perform. The
Salad Bar Luncheon will be September 26th.
A motion was made by Larry Weisenburger and seconded
by John Mortensen to adjourn meeting at 110.07 a.m.;
motion carried.
