HUMAN RESOURCE NETWORK OF ST. CROIX COUNTY
MINUTES
MAY 71 1997
Present: Toni Holland; St, Croix Valley YMCA, Mary Lestrud; U.W. Extension,
Kris Pawl_owsky; West Cap, Paula Welch; Turning Point, and the Department on
Aging.
The meeting was called to order at 1:30 pm by Chair, Tom Holland.
Welch/Pawlowsky moved and seconded respectively to adopt the agenda as
mailed. Motion passed.
It was moved by Lestrud and seconded by Welch to approve the March Meeting
Minutes. Motion passed.
Unfinished Business: Chair, Holland noted that no action could be taken on
the Housing Resolution because a quorum was not present.
l Development
New Business: Dr. James Stewart, Director of the Rura
Institute of the University of Wisconsin, River Falls spoke to the
committee of the work of his department. This department was created to
address the needs of the rural community. The agencies that fall under the
institu.te's direction include the Pigeon Lake Field Station, Pierce County
Economic Development Corporation, Kellogg Cooperative Initiative,
Department of Public Instruction, Service Learning and NASSP Assessment
Center, RDI Associates, Survey Research Center, Incubation Center, and
College of Education -Community Education Development Center. Enclosed are
materials from the meeting regarding the Rural Development Institute's
program_
Announcements and Correspondence:
Department on Aging: Currently this department of St. Croix County rs
working on a workshop for Coping With Care Giving.
West Cap: Housing Continuum of Care is a collaboration of human and housing
services just underway. Kris will contacting each of the agencies. The idea
of this project is to provide transitional housing for people coming out of
shelters- Kris will find out more about this program after a May 8th
meeting.
Turning Point: The center is continuing to do sexual assault outreach twice
per in New .Richmond. They have just_ recently received a 2.4 million dollar
training. There was also a sub grant
grant statewide to do education and
for education for K-12. Finally, "Take Back the Night" was excellent and
held at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. There was a march
downtown River Falls in the rain!
SCv YMCA: The Y continues to develop the wheel park for youth from
throughout the St_ Croix Valley who have an interest in skate boarding and
in -line skating. This was an identified need resulting from focus groups
with youth at the Hudson High School and initiated by the Hudson Rotary
Club as a result of the Developmental Assets study on youth.
Other Business:
1. Attendance has been dropping lately in ouw.- meetings an so a
duest:i.onnaire will be developed to determine interest, best meeting
time, topics or preferred purpose for the committee.
2. The regularly scheduled meeting for July will NOT BE HELD due to
the holiday and low attendance to the previous two meetings.
3. The program on Homelessness will be set for the next meeting in
September. Kris pawlowsky and Kay Radlinger will address the committee
on ihi.s i_sstie. Tom Holland will contact Jim Heebink. from New Richmond
Salvation Army at #246-G901, and Linda Geraghty at. 4246-2130 and Jody
Prauson at f13s(�-5W1 both from the Housing Authority.
Adjournment. was moved 1:>y Welch and seconded ley Lestrud. Meeting adjourned
at 3:30 pm.
