CROIX COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER — ROOM 1281 1101 CARMICHAEL ROAD, HUDSON WI 54016 Chair Esther Wentz called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL Tom Hennes, Sandy Fuller, Supervisor Esther Wentz, Ed Thurman, Steve Kirt, Board Chair Roger Rebholz, Chuck Whiting, Eric Johnson, Doug Briggs, Dave McQuillen, Bonnie Scheel, Supervisor Bill Crammer, Sheriff Dennis Hillstead, Joan Sprain and Guest: Corporation Counsel, Greg Timmerman APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Roger moved and Esther seconded the approval of the previous minutes. OLD AND NEW BUSINESS 1.Reports a. DOJ (Department of Justice) Grant Doug gave a report on reporting procedures and paperwork. No problems agreeing to expectations. Need someone to serve on search committee. Doug asked Esther if she would serve. May also invite school district representative. Mike Huntley from YSB will be the supervisor. Should be no problem with 10% cash match. Governor's Council may meet next fall in the county. Corp. Counsel had reviewed a tentative contract and asked questions for clarification. Esther moved and Bill seconded motion to approve contract following with a unanimous ballot. Target hire date. Jan. 1. The finance committee will need to approve it. b. Youth Services Bureau No report C. St. Croix Valley Restorative Justice Rick reported that they meet in River Falls and it was discussed they also meeting in New Richmond. d. Drug Court Another graduation will be held on Wednesday Dec. 3, 2008 9:00 AM 2.Meth and Alcohol Information Update Based on the last meeting the report from National Child Safety Council, they had sent pamphlets and could help us and DOJ grant. Doug explained it was based on local law enforcement. Bill pointed out 4 because there is a letter in the pamphlet we need to clarify if we are appealing for funding or supporting an appeal for someone else. Need to decide before committing to the effort. Steve reported on the Meth Initiative grant and contract with Joan Chamberlain. The state wants to additional prevention work. This grant has funded SF 10 -14 in 3 school districts and other activities. What ever additional work that will be done will need to be evidence - based. They met with Joan Sprain, UWEX to look at ideas. They suggested forming a sub committee of this group. Sandy volunteered to commit the new AODA person. Bonnie from the River Falls Partnership with Youth also volunteered. Doug asked if anyone is part of needs assessment Community Health Improvement effort through public health. He will keep us posted. Rick passed out Stop Drug and Alcohol Abuse Poster Calendars. Haselden is co- sponsor of the awards program this evening. This is the 18 year that they have done this. 3. Brochure Update Esther reported that the committee has not met. They will meet before next meeting. 4.Open Door Rescue Mission Progress has been made. Has a volunteer that will be writing a grant of $400,000 for building and operations. Two general contractors and remodelers will coordinate /volunteers to remodel building including Elliot Architects donation. Tom also explained the Kwik Trip donation program. Gift cards are available for purchase. Kwik Trip donates $4 to Open Door. He has been promoting the mission at Hudson High School and will be working with a FACS (home ec) class. Other programs: Steve Kirt reported on early efforts and movement forward by the youth committee for a drug court type program for youth. 5.Dates and Times of Future Meetings: 3:00 PM January 28 next meeting Meeting adjourned 4:11p.m. Respectfully submitted, Joan Sprain
