COUNCIL ON AGING 1VIEETING
JANUARY 19, 1994
GOVERNMENT CENTER
CALL EO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at
)e.40 a.m. by Chairman, Myrtle Munns .
ROLL CALL: Members present were Larry
Weisenburger, Emma Joyce, Delores Loock, Myrtle
Munns, Lee Kellaher, Clarence Malick, Herb Giese,
Andy Germain, Jerry Neumann, Roberta Moe, and Ralph
Bader. Also present were Donna Zacharias, Cindy Icard,
Sandy Gehrmann, Barb Blaisdell, Jonna Fedie, Elma
Liberty, Carol Gorke, Janice Thompson, Sherry Crosby,
Peggy Patterson, Helen Hagen and Kathryn Grootenhuis.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by
Andy Germain and seconded by Herb Giese to adopt the
agenda; motion carried,
DATE OF NEXT MEETING: The February 16th
meeting was cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for
March 16th.
A motion was
made by Herb Giese and seconded by Delores Loock to
accept minutes as printed with a correction that Donna
Zacharias attended the December 15th meeting; motion
carried.

Brookdale Foundation Grant: A motion was made by
Clarence Malick and seconded by Andy Germain to
approve two Department on Aging staff to attend the
Brookdale Foundation Conference in New York on
January 27-29; motion carried.
NEW BUSI��TESS:
Legislative Update: Sandy attended the Area Agency on
Aging Briefing last week. There is speculation that the
Congregate and Home -Delivered programs will be
included in a Food Assistance Block Grant. The nutrition
programs would be merged withSchool Lunch
Programs, Welfare Programs, and Jobs Programs. The
Nutrition Program would be means -tested and the only
people eligible would be elderly who qualify for SSI.
Discussion on Block Grants.
Barb discussed what Clinton's Plan is for the Department
of Transportation.
if a letter should be drafted to Herb Giese questioned
oppose the Legislative decisions .
A handout was distributed on the Legislative Update and
the Nutrition Food Programs.
Lee Kellaher will meet with Sandy to draft a resolution to
be brought to the Administrative Committee and then to
the County Board floor. A motion was made by Lee
Kellaher and seconded by Emma Joyce to draft this
Resolution. Motion carried.

S_ Wring Tournament: The 3rd Annual Senior Center
Spring Tournament was discussed. Schedule as follows:
March 22, Hudson; March 29, New Richmond; April 5,
Deer Park, April 12, Glenwood City, April 19,
Woodville; April 26, Baldwin; May 3, Somerset. The
card games will be Euchre, 500 and Partner Cribbage. A
motion was made by Clarence Malick and seconded by
Emma Joyce to play 2 out of the 3 card games .
Discussion that Center Boards should make the decision;
motion denied.
Committee Reports:
Transportation: The Committee looked at a van to
purchase with Trust Fund monies. A motion was made
by Ralph Bader and seconded by Andy Germain to keep
money in Trust Fund and to continue to look for a
vehicle; motion carried.
Operations : Development of a Survivor's brochure and
the Adult Respite Care program was discussed.
Personnel: Evaluation of the Director was completed.
STAFF REPORTS:
The Council on Aging meetings will be in County Board
room from now on per vote.
The Senior Americans Day in Eau Claire is scheduled for
March 14th from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The cost is $15.00
per person plus a donation for the bus. The Department
on Aging will accept registrations until the end of
February.
The Final '94 Program Reports were disbursed and
discussed.
The ' 94 Nutrition Site Statistics were handed out and
discussed.
The Annual Conference for Senior Center Board members
will be March 9 and 10.
St. Croix County was turned down for the Senior
Statemenship Program this year.
Interfaith Caregiving Grant: The Department on Aging
may apply for 425,000 to develop a volunteers program.
Senior Health &Fitness Day will be May 31 st at the
x'MCA in Hudson. The Department will co-sponsor the
event.
The Senior Centers will check if there would be interest
for a fundraiser to sell books. Possibly may pick out 2
books to sell at the '95 County Fair.
Barb compared the ' 94 donations for nutrition site van
trips .
There have been requests to transport people with oxygen
to Dr. appointments. A motion was made, by Clarence
Malick and seconded by Andy Germain to leave policy as
is and not transport people with oxygen, motion carried.

DEER PARK: Received permission to put in exercise
equipment. Had a sing -a -long, Santa, and door prizes at
the Christmas party. There will be card parties on
February 3rd and l7th with dinner after. The Valentine
Party has been scheduled for February l4th.
GLENWOOD CITY: Baked Christmas cookies and
handed out gift certificates to 50 people over age 60 at
Christmas time. Had a Birthday party for the van driver.
A Valentine and Birthday party are being scheduled.
BALDWIN: Some regular participants have gone south
for the winter but new participants coming. The card
project is going very well.
HIJDSON: Pooh Corner kids come about twice a week
to sing and make art prof ects . Last week had a Birthday
party with a Hawaiian theme.
NEW RICHMOND: Had a Christmas Party and two
groups of children came to sing. The Correctional Center
will come in and clean.
