The agenda was adopted on a Mortensen/Boche MOTION. The February 6th minutes were approved on a Mehls/Boche MOTION. _ New Business: #!1. Second Ouarter Plan of Work: Colvard passed out the summary of the plan -of -work submitted to the state, for the quarter - January, February, and March. He stated that because we operate off of a FEMA Grant, there are specific requirements for activities that must be accomplished each quarter. Guidelines for the grant were passed out to the committee members. Discussion proceeded to the Glenwood City Exercise and concerns arose about the absence of some of the key players that should have participated in the exercise. #t2. Tornado Awareness Week: April 24th through the 30th is Tornado Awareness Week. Colvard informed the committee that there will be a state wide tornado drill. on Thursday, April. 27th. A simulated tornado watch will be issued at 1:15 p,m., a simulated warning at 1:45 p.m, and the drill will. conclude at approximately 2:00 p.m.. All county departments are requested to participate. Brochures have been distributed to all county department heads, municipal elected officials, nursing homes, school principals, hospital administrators and senior citizen sites. �13. Nursing Home Plans: Colvard stated that he had discussed the Emergency Operations Plan with officials from the Si, Croix County Health Center - John Borup and Carolyn Krueger. They both felt that it was necessary that the county have a workable plan, especially in the areas of life safety and nursing homes. It was the general consensus of the committee that we should meet with all nursing home administrators and offer assistance in the development and/or updating of their plans, especially in the area of evacuation and sheltering. This is an area where Emergency Government and the Red Cross are directly involved, if a major event should occur. Discussion also included the concerns about hospitals in the county. Mehls/Mortensen MOTION to have a meeting with the nursing home administrators and directors of nursing from each private and municipal nursing home to address their plans for emefgencies. Discussion. Motion Carried. #f4. Bass Lake Flood Miti ag tion: C.olvard attended a meeting concerning the flooding at. Bass Lake, The DNR felt that Emergency Government should be involved. There may be grants available through FEMA, in the near future, that would be administered by the State Division of Emergency Government. The County Emergency Government Office may act as an intermediary for these grants. When further information becomes available, Colvard will inform the committee. t5. Assistant Emergency Government Director Position: Ruth Nelson, Assistant Director of Emergency Government, informed the committee that she has resigned her position effective April 30, 1995. She said that this would give her the opportunity to pursue other endeavors. Boche/Mehls MOTION to accept Ruth Nelsons resignation, with regret. Chairman Jacobson expressed appreciation for her work over the past several years and the committee wished her well in her new endeavors. Nelson thanked the committee for their kindness and expressed gratitude for their cooperation. Correspondence and Concerns: Colvard shared a letter with the committee from Dan Fedderly referencing the Clean Sweep Program, scheduled for this fall, and a .response to some questions and concerns that Dan had requested. A lengthy discussion on the clean sweep ensued. Chuck Mehls addressed some concerns in reference to the Government Centers .Health Roo. He said that he stopped up there this morni mng and noted that the only equipment in the room was a cot, screen and 6 styrofoam cups. Recommendation was made that the Emergency Government Committee be allowed to see the minutes of the Safety and Security Committee. Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 12:10 p.m, on a Mehls/Mort.ensen. MOTION. Respectfully submitted, Charles Mehls, Secretary
