The Meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by Chairman Jacobson. The agenda was adopted
on a Mortensen/Boche MOTION. The February 6th minutes were approved on a Mehls/Boche
MOTION. _
New Business:
#!1. Second Ouarter Plan of Work: Colvard passed out the summary of the plan -of -work
submitted to the state, for the quarter - January, February, and March. He stated that
because we operate off of a FEMA Grant, there are specific requirements for activities
that must be accomplished each quarter. Guidelines for the grant were passed out to the
committee members. Discussion proceeded to the Glenwood City Exercise and concerns
arose about the absence of some of the key players that should have participated in the
exercise.
#t2. Tornado Awareness Week: April 24th through the 30th is Tornado Awareness Week.
Colvard informed the committee that there will be a state wide tornado drill. on Thursday,
April. 27th. A simulated tornado watch will be issued at 1:15 p,m., a simulated warning
at 1:45 p.m, and the drill will. conclude at approximately 2:00 p.m.. All county
departments are requested to participate. Brochures have been distributed to all county
department heads, municipal elected officials, nursing homes, school principals, hospital
administrators and senior citizen sites.
13. Nursing Home Plans: Colvard stated that he had discussed the Emergency Operations
Plan with officials from the Si, Croix County Health Center - John Borup and Carolyn
Krueger. They both felt that it was necessary that the county have a workable plan,
especially in the areas of life safety and nursing homes.
It was the general consensus of the committee that we should meet with all nursing home
administrators and offer assistance in the development and/or updating of their plans,
especially in the area of evacuation and sheltering. This is an area where Emergency
Government and the Red Cross are directly involved, if a major event should occur.
Discussion also included the concerns about hospitals in the county. Mehls/Mortensen
MOTION to have a meeting with the nursing home administrators and directors of
nursing from each private and municipal nursing home to address their plans for
emefgencies. Discussion. Motion Carried.
#f4. Bass Lake Flood Miti ag tion: C.olvard attended a meeting concerning the flooding at. Bass
Lake, The DNR felt that Emergency Government should be involved. There may be
grants available through FEMA, in the near future, that would be administered by the
State Division of Emergency Government. The County Emergency Government Office
may act as an intermediary for these grants. When further information becomes
available, Colvard will inform the committee.
t5. Assistant Emergency Government Director Position: Ruth Nelson, Assistant Director of
Emergency Government, informed the committee that she has resigned her position
effective April 30, 1995. She said that this would give her the opportunity to pursue
other endeavors. Boche/Mehls MOTION to accept Ruth Nelsons resignation, with
regret. Chairman Jacobson expressed appreciation for her work over the past several
years and the committee wished her well in her new endeavors. Nelson thanked the
