Thompson DATE: 09-27-95 COPIES TO: County Clerk News Media/Notice Board Committee Members St. Croix County -Traffic Safety Commission held a meeting October 12, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. at the County Sheriff Department in Hudson. Present were: Joe Gustafson, Roland Thompson, Steve Schofield, Laverne Burke, Doris Peterson, Willard Jochimsen, Jerry Neumann, Al Bentley, Miles Wittig:,and Dolores Ford. Roland Thompson called meeting to order. Motion made, seconded and carried to approve agenda. Next meeting is scheduled for January 18th, 1996. Motion made, seconded and carried to approve minutes of last meeting as written. Old Business: Hudson is still working on the problem of the parking of semi units by the Freedom Station on Coulee Road. Roland will keep checking with them on this to see what solution can be made. Speeds in the Houlton area will be checked by State DOT as soon as possible -- before the first of the year 1996. NEW Business: Discussion of the parking along CTH A by the State Park and the hazard it creates. Thompson will contact the State Park people and get their imput. Both the Corridor:. Safety and the Speed Wave Projects have been successful and extended another year starting in October 1995 and going through August 1996. Miles Wittig brought up the involvement of a school bus in an accident in our area. It was felt that the bus was operating as it should and that perhaps speed of the other vehicles were a factor because of the dense fog at the time. Legislative Up -Date -- In -Line Skaters now have the same privilege as a bicyclists on the roadway and travels with the traffic. Discussion on the requirements of those under 16 riding in the back of a pick up truck. Talked of the requirement of 0 tolerance for underage or lose highway funds. Joe reports that of the 1994 deer crashes, 40.7% occurred in October and November. In 1995 there were 573 fatalities state wide and in 1994 there were 540. Distributed a fact sheet with more statistics on type of accidents, etc. in which fatalities occurred. The Commission reviewed the county spot map which shows the location of all accidents reported to the Sheriff Department. Vern Burke had attended an ambulance meeting in which consideration of changing procedure in responding and handling of calls. As a matter of information, Hudson Bridge in now in service.
