St Croix County Traffic Safety Commission meeting held April 20, 1995 at
the Government Center in Hudson.
Present: Peter Dugal, Barbara Nelson, Donald Johnson, LuVerne Burke, Doris
Peterson, Dolores Ford, Curtis Arnold, Roger Larson, Roland Thompson, Jim
Harer, Jerry Neumann, Eric. Johnson and Miles Wittig.
Meeting called to order by R. W. Thompson, Motion to adopt agenda with a
correction of CTH MM not CTH M for new business consideration.
Barbara Nelson from Public Health, Curtis Arnold, Star Prairie Police Dept.,
and Roger Larson, Star Prairie Village President were introduced.
Ms. Nelson stated that they had received a grant for 5 - 12 year old children
with reference to pedestrian/Bicycle Safety. A $5.00 safety helmet will be
issued, starting May lst. Have enough for 100 children.
Next meeting date was set for July 13th.
Motion to approve minutes of last meeting carried.
Old Business:
USH 12 and I-94 at Exit 4. Traffic is extremely heavy in this area and
the damaged bridge has created extra delays. Expect to take 3 1a 4 weeks
to repair it. Discussion about alternatives to help relieve the problem.
Johnson suggested that perhaps education of the public to try to use
alternate routes would help.
Discussion of the intersection of CTH UU and Carmichael Road. Also have
a complaint of the synchronization (or lack of) of the lights on Carmichael.
State is not in charge of this --would be the City of Hudson.
New Business:
Question on re -zoning CTH MM west of STH 35 in the 30 and 40 mph areas.
County will monitor and enforce to reduce speed in this area. River
Falls is purchasing a 'Speed Board' to help slow drivers.
On STH 35/64 at 38th Street heading Northeast. This area was checked
over and the site distance appears to be "OK". Construction of the
new road will help reduce the problem here.
Complaint of parking of semis along Frontage Road which blocks site
distance for those coming back onto Frontage.
Chief Arnold from Star Prairie states that traffic coming NB on STH 65
into town is going too fast. Is marked a 25 mph zone, but feels that
the signs could be upgraded and maybe located in a position where they
are more visible. Jake will have the State crew go to Star Prairie and
check over and update the signs, etc.
Thompson explained the Corridor Safety and Speed Wave projects that the
County is participating in.
Discussion on the proposed change in the 21 year old drinking law. Doris
made the motion to write a letter to legislators and Governor.
The Governor's Conference will be held June 14,15, & 16th in Stevens Point.
Pete Dugal will be retiring July 7th. Party w0ll be the 14th in Stevens Point.
