PUBLIC PROTECTION COMMITTEE MEETING
August 21, 1995
MEMBERS PRESENT: Art Jacobson, Herb Giese and Bill Krueger. Linda
Luckey being excused and Jack Breault was absent.
STAFF MEMBERS: Paul Burch, Max Ihrke, Martin Shanklin, Karen
Humphrey, Roland Thompson, Lynn Holmes, Eric Johnson, Ann
Gustafson, Debra Staberg and Renee Carufel,
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. by Vice Chairman Art
Jacobson.
Motion by Giese/Krueger to approve the agenda as published. Carried.
Motion by Giese/Krueger to approve the minutes of August 21, 1995.
Carried.
The next regular meeting will be Sept. 7th at 1:00 p.m.
BUDGETS: The committee reviewed the Sheriff's department budget
line by line. Discussion was held. The Sheriff's department
budget has increased by 4.16601 Max Ihrke explained the overtime
expenses. Motion by Krueger/Giese to approve the Sheriff's budget
of $2,052,478 as presented. Carried.
MEDICAL EXAMINER'S BUDGET: Marty Shanklin presented his budget to
the committee. The Medical Examiner's salary was increased 5%, the
on -call staff salary was increased to 75 cents an hour and the
scene visits remained the same as last year. Motion by
Giese/Krueger to approve this budget for $49,971. Carried.
JAIL BUDGET: Discussion was held. The increase in salaries was due
to the 4 Limited Term Employee's becoming full time employees and
the part-time clerk will be permenant part-time. This budget
includes provisions for double bunking. Motion by Krueger/Giese to
approve $1,659,428 for the Jail budget. Carried.
CHILD SUPPORT: Lynn Holmes explained the budget which showed an
increase of 1.4%. The committee recommended removal of the old
copy machine with maintenance agreement and a decrease in hours of
the part time clerk. Motion by Krueger/Giese to approve the
revised figure of $334,860 for Child Support.. Carried,
VITTIM WITNESS: Ann Gustafson presented her budget. This program
will receive 75o reimbursement of the total cost. The total budget

s $65,317 and the County can expect $48,988 reimbursement. Motion
by Krueger/Giese to approve this budget as presented. Carried.
DISTRICT ATTORNEY Eric Johnson presented his budget. There were
several line items this year that were mandated that were not on
the budget last year. Motion by Giese/Krueger to approve $248,214
for the District Attorney's budget. Carried.
Motion by Giese/Krueger to adjourn at 4:45 p.m. Carried.
