HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions 2006 (07) RESOLUTION REQUESTING LEGISLATION TO PROHIBIT ISSUANCE OF STATE RECREATIONAL LICENSES PENDING PAYMENT OF DELIQUENT FORFEITURES AND FEES RESOLUTION NO. 7C2l0(- St. Croix County, Wisconsin WHEREAS, St. Croix County has millions of dollars of outstanding forfeitures and fees; and WHEREAS, existing and future county budget constraints dictate a need for the collection of these monies; and WHEREAS, while a significant portion of these delinquent forfeitures and fees are owed by non - residents, presenting collection problems, some of these non - residents may purchase Wisconsin recreation licenses; and WHEREAS, a portion of the delinquent fines originate from fish and game regulations violations; and WHEREAS, a mechanism is in place that identifies persons with delinquent forfeiture payments at the time and place they apply for recreational licenses; and WHEREAS, failure to follow -up on delinquent fine and fee collections sends a .negative message to the public. THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the Wisconsin Counties Association and the members of the State Senate and Assembly take immediate steps to initiate legislation to withhold State recreational licenses, including ATV, snowmobile, all -game hunting and fishing, from residents and non - residents if they owe delinquent forfeitures or fees, until such are paid.
