COMMISSIONERS' COMPENSATION

St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, Wisconsin Statutes sec. 32.08(2) requires the circuit court judges of St. Croix
County to appoint 6 condemnation commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the condemnation commissioners selected by the judges are specialists in the field
of real estate, including realtors, attorneys, bankers, and title examiners; and
WHEREAS, Wisconsin Statutes sec. 32.08(4) requires the County Board to: (1) establish an
hourly rate to compensate the commissioners for services actually performed; (2) provide for
additional compensation at the hourly rate for the condemnation commission chairperson for
administrative work performed in selecting and notifying the commissioners to serve in a
condemnation hearing, and reimbursement for actual out -of- pocket expenses in connection with
a hearing; and (3) establish a mileage reimbursement rate for the commissioners for round trip
travel from their homes to the place where condemnation hearings are held; and
WHEREAS, Wisconsin Statute sec. 32.08(4) provides that the compensation, out -of- pocket
expenses of the condemnation commission chairperson, and mileage reimbursement shall be paid
by the condemner, resulting in no financial impact on the St. Croix County; and
WHEREAS, the average compensation for condemnation commissioners in surrounding counties
is $20.00 per hour.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the rate of
compensation for condemnation commissioners be $20.00 per hour, that the condemnation
commission chairperson be reimbursed for actual out -of- pocket expenses in connection with a
condemnation hearing, and that the rate of reimbursement for mileage be the mileage rate
annually established by the Internal Revenue Service.
