ST. CROIX COUNTY, WISCONSIN

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) miscalculated sales
taxes for counties throughout Wisconsin, resulting in some counties receiving
overpayments and some counties receiving underpayments of their share of sales tax
revenues; and
WHEREAS, DOR has calculated total overpayments and underpayments for
affected counties, but DOR does not know specific amounts per year; and
WHEREAS, St. Croix County's sales tax amounts were under calculated,
resulting in an underpayment to the County of, at this time, $324,541.
WHEREAS, DOR expects to give a full report by the end of this year (2005)
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that,
as a result of the miscalculations and remaining uncertainties, state officials obtain
independent audits of the calculations of sales taxes in past years and verification of the
reliability of the system used for calculations for future years.
FURTHER, be it resolved that the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) is
requested to join in this call for correction of the sales tax system to assure its accuracy
and reliability.
