COMMITTEE EFFORTS TO CONTROL DEER OVERPOPULATION

ST. CROIX COUNTY, WISCONSIN
WHEREAS, Hudson area Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC) consists
of St. Croix County, Hudson School District, Towns of Hudson, St. Joseph and Troy,
City of Hudson and Village of North Hudson; and
WHEREAS, all member municipalities of the IAC have at one time or another
received complaints from residents about deer overpopulation; and
WHEREAS, all member municipalities of the IAC agree that deer overpopulation
in our individual and collective boundaries is a problem; and
WHEREAS, all member municipalities of the IAC recognize that said deer
overpopulation contributes to actual or potential increases in car /deer accidents, car
occupants /deer injuries and fatalities, and nuisance costs; and
WHEREAS, all member municipalities of the IAC recognize that collective,
coordinated activity is the preferred method for addressing the issue of deer
overpopulation; and
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is supportive
of local community action(s) to address the deer overpopulation issue.
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that it
will consider proposals from other members of municipalities of the IAC to address the
deer overpopulation issue on County land located within a member municipality's
boundaries by whatever means the governing body of the member municipality deems
most appropriate and which are also consistent with DNR recommendations; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that St. Croix County supports collective,
coordinated efforts to reduce the size of the deer herd within the IAC's geographic
boundaries.
