TAX PAYMENT SYSTEM
Resolution No. y) (Z06
St. Croix County, Wisconsin
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 129 and Senate Bill 117 propose major modifications to the
calculation of interest and penalties relating to delinquent property tax payments; and
WHEREAS, the legislation will result in a substantial decline in revenue to St. Croix
County; and
WHEREAS, additional staffing and program costs required by the proposed legislation
are significant; and
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin grants no grace periods, of any length, for taxes
collect by the state; and
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Treasurer would like to maintain uniformity in tax
collections; and
WHEREAS, the majority of taxpayers pay their property taxes in a timely manner; and
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Treasurer makes every effort to inform the taxpayers,
through various mediums, of payment deadlines; and
WHEREAS, the enactment of the proposed legislation into law would serve only a few
taxpayers and penalize a majority of taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors feels that the present system for
the payment of property taxes is adequate and in no need of change.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors strongly
opposes Assembly Bill 129 and Senate Bill 117; and
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors that the
County Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor, members of the
Wisconsin legislature representing St. Croix County, the Wisconsin Counties Association, and to
the clerks of all Wisconsin counties.
Offered by the Finance Committee on December 13, 2005.
