The meeting was called to order by Chairman Raymond. Date of next meeting was set for August 7, 2007 i Raymond moved that the agenda be adopted as presented. Peavey seconded the motion. Motion carried. i Ruetz moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. i Peavey seconded the motion. Motion carried. j I Peavey moved that the vouchers be approved. I Ruetz seconded the motion. Motion carried. Administrative Report - Chancellor's Visit Chancellor David Wilson will be visiting the St. Croix County Fair on July 19U' from 1- 3:30. Committee members are invited to join staff in an informal discussion and tour of the fair grounds. County Board Chair Buck Malick and Chuck Whiting, Administrative Coordinator will also be invited. - Strategic Planning I Sprain reported that the strategic planning process will be conducted this fall. UW- Extension is looking for counties who would be interested in involving their entire county board in the process. After discussion, the Committee decided that St. Croix would not be one of those "pilot" counties. The staff will report next month any further details regarding the process. i Agriculture Agent's Report Milligan is working on Farm City Day preparations. The event will be at the Haase Dairy Inc. Milligan is working on Fair preparations. Milligan will be hosting a UW- Extension agricultural engineer in July. The engineer will be visiting six dairy and beef operations to help the producers develop dairy and beef facility modernization plans. Family Living Report http: // 172.17.128.87/ Committee / Minutes /2007 /AgExt/agextO7O3O7.htm 2/11/2011 Agriculture and Extension Committee - July 3, 2007 Page 3 of 3 Sprain informed the Committee that Mike Perkl chose her to attend the Leadership and Management Assessment Center in Ohio, October 1 -5. Horticulture Program Report Direct Marketing - Hilfiker announced that a regional news article featuring the "Farm Fresh Atlas' was published in 4 local papers with a distributorship of 24,15o households. Hilfiker was quoted in the article as a member of the steering committee that the developed the Atlas. Hilfiker and 3 commercial growers had a "Buy Fresh, Buy Local" exhibit with the Farm Atlas at St. Croix County Earth Day with 20o attendees. I Commercial Farm Consultations — In the month of June, Hilfiker made 12 on farm visits. Concepts taught j included using the Farm Atlas as a marketing option, vegetable plant family rotation, weed control with cover crops, apple tree planting depths, soil testing, trickle irrigation, creating a positive political environment for small farm businesses (signage issues), and developing a plant nursery tour in spring 2008. Home Horticulture Seminars — Hilfiker taught demonstration seminars earlier this spring on: "Planting Trees Properly" on Arbor Day for a 125 4th graders in New Richmond in cooperation with the Urban Forestry Comm.; "Container Gardening" for 28 HCE leader trainers who will teach 155 members; and "Growing Flowers Successfully" for the Hudson Garden Club. Program Priorities — Hilfiker reported that she met with UW- Extension staff to help set priorities for her 50% position. She will be distributing her time with approximately 6o% with commercial horticulture programming and 40% with home horticulture. This will be achieved by spending Tues. & Thurs. mornings on home horticulture and afternoons and Fridays on commercial horticulture as often as possible. Ruetz moved to adjourn.
