Direct Marketing - Hilfiker announced that a regional news article featuring the "Farm Fresh Atlas' was published
in 4 local papers with a distributorship of 24,15o households. Hilfiker was quoted in the article as a member of the
steering committee that the developed the Atlas. Hilfiker and 3 commercial growers had a "Buy Fresh, Buy Local"
exhibit with the Farm Atlas at St. Croix County Earth Day with 20o attendees.
I
Commercial Farm Consultations — In the month of June, Hilfiker made 12 on farm visits. Concepts taught j
included using the Farm Atlas as a marketing option, vegetable plant family rotation, weed control with cover crops,

businesses (signage issues), and developing a plant nursery tour in spring 2008.

Properly" on Arbor Day for a 125 4th graders in New Richmond in cooperation with the Urban Forestry Comm.;
"Container Gardening" for 28 HCE leader trainers who will teach 155 members; and "Growing Flowers Successfully"
for the Hudson Garden Club.
Program Priorities — Hilfiker reported that she met with UW- Extension staff to help set priorities for her 50%
position. She will be distributing her time with approximately 6o% with commercial horticulture programming and
40% with home horticulture. This will be achieved by spending Tues. & Thurs. mornings on home horticulture and
afternoons and Fridays on commercial horticulture as often as possible.
