Dates and Time of Future Meetings ADJOURN (Items may be taken in different order) ** Additions /Changes /Corrections Items for County Board approval must be submitted to the County Clerk's office by Wednesday morning preceding a County Board meeting. 6/20/2007 10:11 AM OFFICIAL St Croix County Meth Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes June 28, 2007 Chairman Esther Wentz called the meeting to order. Members Present: Esther Wentz, Denise Gunderson, Tom Hennes, Tom Caflisch, Amber Perry, Dennis Hillstead and Joan Sprain. Guest: Bill Cranmer. Esther reported that Linda Robertson will no longer be able to attend our meetings. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the last three meetings: March, 27, May 24, April 24 were approved. Next Meeting: Thursday July 26th @ 3pm in Room 1281, Government Center. OLD AND NEW BUSINESS • Future of this committee: Esther reported that County Board Chair "Buck" Malick has approved the continuation of the Meth Advisory Committee until the 2008 election. This may become a standing committee after that time and be expanded to include all drugs including alcohol. • Mentor Program: Tom Hennes reported they are working with 2 men and 3 women. He shared the story of a man they worked with who got a job, housing and is a volunteer who credits the program to his success. He also shared that Operation Help has a good resource manual that would be helpful to us. • Drug Court Update: There are 11 clients/ 5 referrals. The Rotary granted them $500 for incentives. Discussion then focused on funding. • Future Events: Denise Gunderson reported that MADAM will be at the St. Croix & Polk County Fairs • Butterfly House: Denise also shared there are 2 remaining women that are working the program. Two left and there is a warrant for their arrest. Some residents have had the attitude that "prison is better because they have no responsibility ". There will be an open house with treatment centers in the area. They have received $5,000 from the St. Croix Valley Foundation and $23,000 is pending from the Hugh J. Andersen Foundation. • "In the Shadow of Meth ": Joan Sprain shared the hour long public television DVD which features St. Croix Co. as well as stories from the Dakota's, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa. This will be used by MADAM at the fairs. • TV Programming: Esther will write a letter to the Cartoon Network regarding inappropriate drug messages portrayed after 9:OOPM in the evening when children and youth are watching. • Agenda for July: We will brainstorm educational activities that our committee should could on. • Adjourned at 5:20 pm.
