Joan passed out power points describing the problem of under -age drinking and what communities can do about the problem. The information centered around 3 A's: access /availability, attractiveness and affordability. Based on her experience she felt that we could address the community norms around under -age drinking in St. Croix Co. including parental acceptance of the behavior. She also shared the information Dena Morre, a UW Stout intern, gathered regarding alcohol use prevention programs are available in St. Croix Co. Dana Krahenbuhl, Hudson Schools, shared information she has gained from students and parents. Access is a problem especially via community celebrations. Marijuana use is a problem and parents don't seem to be concerned about it. She provides an AODA newsletter available at http://hs.hudson.kl2.wi.us/site res view template aspx?id=8a0687ec-68bf- 4777 -a1c5- b3d103337c74 Parents are less likely to attend a meeting but more likely to go to this site. Dana also could use help from us to maintain the Title 4 Safe and Drug Free Schools funds that are reallocated each spring. The committee agreed we would show support by contacting our Congressional representatives when the time arises. Tom Hennes shared that there is not a lot happening in the faith community. There is an NA group that meeting at the First Baptist Church on Vine Street. Steve led us in a discussion regarding our goals and strategies. The decision was made for this group to focus on underage (minor) alcohol and other drug use. Tom Caflisch shared his experience presenting information about meth to existing groups and wondered if our committee could do the same about teen alcohol and drug use. He suggested we create a presentation and take it on the road. Tom H. shared that he could easily do that as he speaks to groups about the Rescue Mission. Discussion focused on how we could make this available to many groups throughout the county. A sub committee was named to work on a draft presentation before our next meeting.
