OLD AND NEW BUSINESS
Review of public hearing comments and consideration of staff recommended changes to the
Nonmetallic Mining Ordinance Amendments and Section 17.65 Sign Regulations and
related sections of the Zoning Ordinance.
Denzer reviewed public hearing comments and proposed changes to the sign regulations. She
indicated that staff would confer with legal counsel on the definition of "flag" and develop
reduced height standards for signs in residential areas. Habhegger confirmed that staff would
respond to Supervisor Luckey's comments and questions as part of additional staff review. The
Committee directed staff to finalize changes for Committee consideration on June 12''.
Shillcox reviewed handout that summarized all of the public hearing comments on the proposed
changes to the Nonmetallic Mining Ordinance. Most of the comments focused on the proposed
groundwater protection requirements in §§ 14.2.A.8.c. &d. Staff proposed to change the
separation standard for wash ponds to separation from bedrock instead of groundwater. Staff also
proposed to reorganize and revise the hydrogeologic study requirements in response to
comments, including a change to make modeling an option under certain conditions. The
Committee directed staff to finalize changes for Committee consideration on June 12
Meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
