Winberg DATE: October 2, 2007 COPIES TO:County Clerk News Media /Notice Board Committee Members St. Croix County Traffic Safety Commission meeting was held October 10, 2007 in room 1250 at the Government Center at L OAM. Present were: Kevin Brown, Charles Grant, Buzz Marzolf, Doris Peterson, Brian Erickson, Jack Colvard, Miles Wittig, Dennis Johnson, Greg Helgeson, Mike Winberg and Pam Dabruzzi. Meeting was called to order by Chairman Winberg, motion was made to adopt agenda, seconded and approved. Motion to accept minutes of July 18, 2007 was made and approved. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Mr. Helgeson stated a speed limit increase was done on Hwy. 12 from CTH U to Lenertz road. Speed limit was increased from 45 to 50 MPH. Mr. Helgeson stated the speed limit was reduced on Hwy. 12 from Hwy. 65 to CTH TT. Discussion was held on issues with roundabouts. NEW BUSINESS St. Croix County has had (3) traffic fatalities since last meeting on July 18. All have involved motorcyclists. We are currently at (15) fatalities for the year. Chairman Winberg announced that the annual motorcycle run is on Saturday October 13` 2007 starting in North Hudson. Chairman Winberg requested a possibility of placing "No Parking" signs on the CTH E hill in Houlton. The county Highway Department's stance is that they would prefer "NO" permanent signs. Possibly use temporary signs during events. Discussion was held and Chairman Winberg will discuss the issue with the Highway Department Supervisors to attempt a resolution. A discussion was held reference the possibility of putting mile marker signs on the new (4) lane Hwy. 35 corridor between New Richmond and Houlton. Mr. Helgeson stated that in the beginning the state decided not to place them. Mr. Helgeson stated he would like a letter from Emergency Service Departments in the area in support of this issue if there is wide support. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CORRESPONDENCE Mr. Johnson stated there have been 585 fatalities in the state as of October 19` Last year at the same time there were 551. More motorcycle fatalities. Mr. Johnson stated there are no new legislative items. October law of the month is headlight usage. Mr. Johnson handed out a winter driving guidelines handout. Mr. Johnson reminded everyone to watch for deer. ADJOUNMENT Meeting adjourned at 11:08AM.
