She discussed the challenges the group had marketing the events and possible changes for next year. Agriculture Agent's Report Milligan coordinated and taught at four drought management meetings in early August in Barron, Dunn, Polk and St. Croix Counties. Agents from these counties participated in the meetings. Over 120 producers participated in the meeting at Ter -Rae Farms in St. Croix County. Approximately 80 producers participated in the Western Wisconsin Soybean Field Day at Erin Prairie Town Hall. Plots were in Mitchell's and Emmert's fields. Topics focused on weed, disease and insect control. The spider mite issue was becoming a major threat to soybeans in the county at that time. Milligan and Jim Faust UWEX agriculture agent in Dunn County are coordinating a Using Distillers Grains In Dairy and Beef Rations meeting in Menomonie on September 21. UW Extension dairy and beef specialists will be guest speakers. This is in response to the many questions producers have regarding using distillers grains as the ethanol plant opens in Wheeler and will be marketing distillers grains. Milligan is on the Western Wisconsin Ag Lenders Conference Planning Committee. It is scheduled for January 11, 2007. Milligan is also scheduling a Beef Quality Assurance meeting in November in response to producers' requests. In response to concerns regarding feeding drought damaged corn and corn silage Milligan will also be scheduling a meeting in November with UW Extension specialists regarding the issue for producers and nutritionists. The UW Extension Dairy Road Show is being scheduled for mid January. The closest site will be Menomonie. Nitrates have been a concern for producers. Two beef cows have been killed due to nitrate poisoning in St. Croix County. Milligan worked with a UWEX forage specialist to have 10 corn silage and sorghum sudangrass samples analyzed from around the county to determine the seriousness of the situation. Four of the samples exceeded the safe feeding limit without dilution. One of the samples exceeded any feeding limit without ensiling first. This information has been distributed to producers and professionals with feeding and testing recommendations. Milligan is working with a couple of alfalfa producers and a UWEX plant pathologist regarding the diagnosis of a serious alfalfa problem. The pathologist has visited the fields and is testing plants and soil for causes of the problem. Progress is being made in identifying the cause of the problem. Peavey moved to adjourn. Norton- Baumann seconded. Respectively submitted, Eugene Ruetz Secretary
