Dianne Rhein, AgeAdvantAge, informed the Council of a
variety of issues. The Wisconsin Council on Children and
Families is hosting a forum in Eau Claire on Feb. 8th from 6:30
p.m. — 7:30 p.m. to discuss TABOR. On March 21 UW -Eau
Claire Extension is hosting a Senior Americans Day: "Spring
Training for Mind, Body, and Spirit ". Dianne also alerted the
council that Governor Doyle was scheduled to be in Eau Claire
today to announce additional funding for older adults' services
and programming.
The state continues to address long term care reform. St.
Croix County is a part of a nine county consortium which, along
with Community Health Partnership and other entities, is
looking at opportunities for long term reform in this area.
Dianne believes counties needs to look to their offices on aging
which efficiently serve older adults and their families under the
Older Americans Act. There is concern that the state may move
funding to regional resource centers versus maintaining the local
offices on aging which currently serve as the focal point of
information and assistance for older adults and their families. " It
is important to be informed, to be educated, and to speak up for
what [older adults] think will be best for older people here, now
and in the future ".
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Medicare Part D: It has been a very busy number of months at
the Department on Aging. Sue Kramer has worked very hard at
assisting individuals choose plans that best fits their needs.
Over 500 people have received some sort of Medicare Part D

Croix County Public Health Food Inspector, finished her annual
Council on Aging Page 2 03/31/06
inspections of the Nutrition Sites. Laurie reported that she
enjoyed her visits to the sites and could see the obvious
dedication of the staff and volunteers. Reports were good.
Secret Santa: This year 62 people throughout the county
received Secret Santa bags which were filled with useful and
needed supplies. The employees of the St. Croix County
Government Center were very generous this year. Three local
churches, and one individual, donated homemade quilts. A
former county employee and a current county employee knit
and donated enough scarves so each older adult received two!
Donations and additions to the list are accepted at anytime.
Thank you to everyone that helped make this program a success.
