He reviewed the three agricultural zoning districts and general provisions where the proposed ordinance revisions would apply. Bezek also explained how the definition of animal units would be replaced by a cross - reference to administrative rule NR 243. After Bezek completed his presentation, Chairperson Habhegger allowed time for questions before opening the public hearing. Bezek then answered several questions regarding the relationship of the proposed amendments to subdivisions, town plans, bison, and other animals not classified as livestock. 1 Habhegger opened the public hearing at 7:45 p.m. Those in attendance made the following comments: Garth Mueller suggested that we add some general provisions about grandfathering existing uses and expressed support that the proposed amendments were not more restrictive than State requirements. Linda Geraghty and Mike Geraghty asked that ordinance language be clarified for replacing nonconforming structures that are destroyed. Fritz Anding expressed concern that the proposed ordinance provisions might be too strict for young farmers starting in the dairy industry. Mike Geraghty commented that he was able to start farming on 20 acres with an animal waste management plan on 300 acres of rented land. Doug Rivard commented that he managed 10 -12 head of beef livestock and that it would be good to have ordinance provisions in place that met State requirements. Warren Bader expressed support for the proposed amendments since they met, but did not exceed, State requirements. Loren Smeester supported amendments that were not more restrictive than State requirements. Habhegger closed the hearing and adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m. He thanked all of the public in attendance for their participation in the hearing.
