Committee Members
St. Croix County Traffic Safety Commission meeting was
held February 1, 2006 at the Sheriff's Department in Hudson
at LOAM.
Present were: Charles Grant, Tim Ramberg, Greg
Helgeson, Dennis Johnson, Miles Wittig, Buzz Marzolf, John
Shilts and Pam Dabruzzi
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Shilts.
Motion was made to adopt agenda, seconded and approved.
Motion to accept minutes of October 19, 2005 was made and
approved.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Mr. Helgeson stated the state is looking into the
issues on Hwy. 65 in Roberts. At this time they can't
justify lowering the speed limit.
NEW BUSINESS
Chairman Shilts mentioned that a letter was received
reference a request to extend the "no passing zone" line on
Hwy. 35 from 125 Ave until at least 1/ mile N of Riverview
Acres Rd. in St. Joseph Township. Mr. Helgeson stated if
the state does this it would create a large stretch of a
"no passing zone" and take away a stretch of passing zone
which could create problems. Mr. Helgeson will respond to
the above issue.
Mr. Helgeson wondered if there have been a lot of
problems with 194 WB ramp at Hwy. 63. People are going a
little too fast and lose control and slide off the road.
This seems to be a driver error issue. No design problems.
A request was received for guard rails at CTH I at the
curve down from Walsh Rd. Mr. Ramberg stated the county
has reduced the speed to 40 MPH and also they added an
arrow sign for the curve and adjusted the others. The
county also placed a curve a head sign on the speed limit
sign.
A discussion was held reference the intersection of
CTH T and Hwy. 64. Mr. Helgeson stated the stated is
looking at putting rumble strips in. Mr. Ramberg stated he
doesn't really agree with rumble strips as they create
problems. He would like to put up some new signs instead.
Mr. Helgeson will look into signs instead to start with.
Mr. Ramberg stated the county is looking at renaming a
section of CTH C in Somerset Township by new Hwy. 35 & 64.
Would like some input. He is getting input from Somerset
Township, Village of Somerset and Dispatch.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mr. Johnson stated that as of January 31, 2006 there
has been (48) fatalities in the state so far in 2006. In
2005 the state had a total of (801) fatalities. St. Croix
County had a total of (12) fatalities, which is down from
the average of (18) in the last five years.
Mr. Johnson went over some upcoming conferences in
Madison.
Chairman Shilts asked Mr. Johnson to look into the
stream lining of the re- certification for officers who are
certified to help with child safety seat installation,
making it less difficult to re- certify.
St. Croix County is receiving a $4,000.00 Click It
grant.
ADJOURNMENT
Meeting adjourned at 11:15AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Pam Dabruzzi
