Date of next meeting was set for August 2, 2005 Peavey moved that the agenda be adopted as presented. Burri seconded the motion. Motion carried. Burri moved that the previous meeting's minutes be approved. Zoerb seconded the motion. Motion carried. Peavey moved that the vouchers be approved. Ruetz seconded the motion. Motion carried. Administrative Report Federal Budget —no report. State Budget —no report. County Budget — Reviewed updates in the Coop Cog Plan. Motion by Zoerb, second by Burn to approve the 2005 -06 Coop Cog plan with the minor revisions as presented. Motion passed. Reaman reported that Baker is working with a couple of printing sources to obtain estimates for outsourcing printing jobs in UW- Extension. County Fair — Entries in Photography and Cultural Arts are up by 100 in each department. The other departments are consistent in entries compared to last year. There are many volunteer opportunities at the fair, some require a couple of hours time and others require an all day commitment. The Tiffany Creek project looks beautiful and is very near completion. 4 -H Youth Development Agent's Report Positive Youth Development Through Camping Programs — Reaman and Vanderloop reported on the purposes of counselor training: 1) preparing counselors to work effectively with campers and 2) gaining leadership skills through planning and implementing the camp program. Preparing counselors to work effectively with campers involves several aspects: creating the cabin environment; redirecting behavior before discipline is necessary; keeping campers safe and healthy. Reaman shared part of a lesson she taught on stereotypes and how stereotypes can hinder communication. Vanderloop shared what she personally gained through her experiences as a counselor and then in the Jr. Director role in her last year of 4 -H. Update of other Summer Programs — Reaman reported on the 4 -H Interstate Exchange, the camp program and registrations for the WI State Fair. Agricultural Agent's Report Milligan was asked by a lender at AgStar to give a presentation to their staff on compost barns for dairy cattle. Eighteen people participated in the presentation. The participants learned what compost barns are, how they are managed and the cost of building and operating. Discussions are occurring regarding a tour to Western Minnesota to see the barns in August. Sixty -seven people participated in a Livestock Facilities Tour coordinated and taught by Milligan. Participants toured the Jim Lund and Rudy Erickson farms. The tour focused on safe and efficient livestock handling facilities. Topics also included an update on bovine spongiform encephalopathy, USDOT truck registration, beef quality assurance and livestock identification issues. Milligan continues to work with Tom Wells, Farm City Day general chairman, and the committee on Farm City Day preparations at the Lokker Farm in August. Milligan coordinated the 4 -H dairy Fitting and Showing day at the Mitchell's. Thirteen youth and adults participated. Milligan has two dairy producers participating in the Milk Money program. The goal is to improve profitability by reducing the somatic cell count and incidence of mastitis. Milligan is working on several committees for planning educational activities for the next several months. These include: Farm Technology Days, Diagnostic Crop Clinic, Corn Silage Day, Growing Wisconsin Farmers and the Ag Lenders Conference. Individual contacts include; cropland rent, building designs, dairy nutrition, livestock facilities, milk quality and other crop and livestock questions. Future programs include farm business analysis, forage management, dairy nutrition and livestock housing/facilities. Resource Agent's Report Janke reported that he and the Interim Director of the UWRF Small Business Development Center held counseling sessions in the Government Center in June with 3 clients. In addition Janke worked with 5 clients outside of the counseling sessions. Janke has been requested to assist the local governments in the New Richmond area to better understand how they might utilize boundary agreements. He will meet with them on July 20. The UWRF Extension Office is organizing an Intergovernmental Collaboration Network at the request of a group of elected officials from Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties. Janke has been participating in the design of the Network organization. Family Living Agent's Report Lestrud gave a brief report on summer youth activities, the 4H Food Fair and the For Your Image Day. She highlighted her work with 180 youth at the Hudson High School helping them understand their brain development in light of risk - taking and other behaviors. Lestrud also is working on long -term plans for the Family Resource Center, personnel policies, and hiring of outreach coordinator and a new parent educator. Chairman Raymond adjourned.
