COUNCIL CAN AGING MEETING
November 10, 2005

CALL TO ORDER Council Chairman Ralph Bader called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Oedge of Allegiance was said.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Gerald Peterson, Irene
Burch, Richard (Buzz) Marzc lf, John Mortensen, Alice Mullan,
Carolyn Weisenburger, Betto Norman, Bob Jacobson, Ralph
Bader, Rich Peterson, and Jea ette O'Connell. Also present were:
Kj ersti L.O. Duncan, Tracy Davis, Renea Aeschliman, Julie
Hillstead, Donna Lamson, Jai Thompson, Faye Simone, Cindy
Helmke, Shirley Marlette, Sallie Dull, Marcia Chandler, and
Vivian Kemling. Excused wa Al Schrank.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA: A motion was made by John
Mortensen and seconded by Rich Peterson to adopt the agenda as
printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETIN : The next meeting will be held on
Thursday, December 15,,'2005.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES: A motion on the
amended minutes was made by Gerald Peterson and seconded by
Bob Jacobson to approve the minutes; motion carried.

Introductions: Paula Gibs n, Coalition of Wisconsin Aging
Groups, spoke to the council #bout the recent actions of CWAG.
CWAG is an advocacy group' that was instrumental in lobbying
for the continuation of Wisconsin's SeniorCareRx program
(SeniorCareRx will continue into 2007), as well as increased
funding for the Wisconsin Benefit Specialist program.
Individuals can become members of CWAG and attend
regularly scheduled meetings The next District 6 meeting will

be on March 17 and held in Chippewa Falls. Ms. Gibson
stressed that it is very important for older adults /advocates from
Western Wisconsin to become involved (as their individual and
community needs differ from persons in Madison/Milwaukee).
Faye Simone, was introduced as River. Falls' new Nutrition
Program Manager. Cindy B.elmke, was introduced as the new
Nutrition Program Manager for Roberts and Croixview. Due to
Gladys Ellefson's retiremen , Julie Hillstead will be the new
Nutrition Program Manager in Woodville.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Monster Mash Bash: Around 80 people attended this annual
event. Entertainment was pr vided by Roger Heutmaker and the
Hanyachs. Residents from omforts of Home of Hudson and
the Deerfield of New Richmond were in attendance along with
many Nutrition Program participants.
Holiday Memories Essa C retest: There were three entrants
in this years contest: Eunice Hop — Baldwin, Patricia Mayer —
New Richmond, and Pearl Henderson — Baldwin. All three will
have their essays printed in the December issue of SCAN.

Annual Transportation ns ection: Tracy scheduled
inspections for all the St. C oix County Department on Aging
vehicles at the Highway garage in Hammond on November 11 to
The inspection will start at 7:30 a.m. and will be conducted by
the Highway Patrol DOT.
NEW BUSINESS:
9:30 a.m. Public Hearin : 2006 Specialized Transportation
Assistance Grant Application: Tracy Davis, Community
Outreach Coordinator for the Department on Aging, opened the
Public Hearing at 9:30 and presented the 2006 grant application

to the Council. The hearing was closed at 9:40 a.m.
10:00 a.m. Public Hearing: 2006 Aging Unit Plan
Amendments: Kj ersti presented and handed out amendments to
the 2002 — 2005 Aging Unit Plan to be reviewed by the council
members. Kj ersti highlighted how the Department on Aging
addressed the sections changed and emphasized by the state.
Kj ersti also reviewed the 006 budget detailing the amount
granted to St. Croix County by AgeAdvantAge. The hearing
closed at 10:15 a.m.
Secret Santa: This year the Department on Aging will again
organize the Senior Secret Santa program. All items should be
brought to the Hudson office no later than December 2n to
allow for ample time to s rt and pack the bags. Nutrition
Program Managers should, call the office with names of
individuals who are over 60� are of low income, and have little
to no family in the area. Thej bags will be handed - out at the next
council meeting on December 15 Van Drivers may deliver the
bags during regular route hors or volunteers can deliver them at
their convenience.
STAFF REPORTS:
Ki ersti's Report:
Kj ersti is busy setting up Medicare Part D informative
sessions. The state has issued a priority list of individuals who
should receive help, in the following order: persons who are
homebound, participants at the nutrition sites, family caregivers,
and then other local coalition and residents. There will be more
informative sessions, as well as one -on -one assistance, b
appointment only in the months to come.
Kj ersti attended an appr (Iciation dinner in New Richmond for
individuals involved in the St. Croix County Fair.

Tracy's Report: Nothing to report this month.
SITE/CENTER REPORTS
BALDWIN The Halloween Party was fun. Many participants
dressed up. Members of I e local VFW will be come for a
Veteran's Day program at :00 p.m. on November 10 On
December 1S members of the Baldwin Senior Center will attend a
concert at the Amery Senior Center. On November 22n a
"Thanksgiving Thank You j Dinner" will be held to honor
volunteers who help at the Se�for Center. Jimmy Armstrong will
entertain the participants ford the Christmas Party on Dec. 5th.
Video exercise, bingo, and c#ds are still taking place and doing
well.
DEER PARK Held a Halloween Party with a costume contest
and games. The Center Boa id will host a volunteer appreciation
brunch on December 16 onight will be the Veteran's Day
evening meal and program. IThere will be a violin teacher and
some students entertaining th' guests for the meal. Lori, the St.
Croix County Sanitarian, will be visited on November 23r
GLENWOOD CITY: The S nior Center had to be relocated this
week to Holy Cross Lutheran Church so that a new floor could be
laid at the Community Cent�r. Margaret Grummons, Cook, is
currently on leave of absence.
HAMMOND: The Monstei Mash Bash was a very fun time.
Activities are all going well. In the next couple of months Donna
would like to start up an a Kercise program using videos and
massage. Many parti 'ipants attended last month's
Hammond/Roberts Senior Ni e Out, and had a good time. The
Christmas Party is going to �e held on December 8 with the
Polka Notes entertaining.
ROBERTS The Halloween party at the site was fun; bingo was
played with unusual prizes. The Senior's Night Out featured

Diane Petronovich on the accordion and German food to honor
Oktoberfest. Thanksgiving and going away party for Julie will be
on Monday, November 21S
HUDSON All activities are going well. The Hayshakers
entertained for the volunteer Banquet and tap dancers will be
entertaining for the monthly B'rthday Party.
NEW RICHMOND Every that that attended the Monster Mash
Bash had a good time. J & Maureen Brunner will be
entertaining at the Veteran's Pay evening meal. December 14
will be the Christmas Party and entertainment by the Kitchen
Band. Bingo and cards are pl ed daily and the other activities are
going well.
RIVER FALLS: The Foot linic on October 19 had 20 people
attend. The flu clinic on Tues ay had 77 people. The Christmas
Party will be on December 5 4t the West Wind. The cost will be
$7.75 and take place at the noo hour. Paula Gibson, CWAG, will
be the guest speaker at the G eral Meeting. 12 people attended
the Halloween Party.
SOMERSET Everything is oing well. The Deerfield residents
attended a little Halloween get ogether at the site and E.T. handed
out candy. On November 23r here will be the Thanksgiving Day
dinner with John and Maure Brunner entertaining. Children
from St. Anne's come once a onth to make tray favors for the
Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond. A new bingo set was
donated by Helen Roy. A new daycare center visited for
Halloween. A piano player wil be coming to sing and play for the
participants.
WOODVILLE On Decembe� 1S some participants would like to
go to Amery to listen to the M mories by using the Baldwin van.
The Cardells came for the Fa l Party. On November 8 was a
retirement party for Gladys E lefson. Julie would like to have
some sort of Christmas party — no plans of yet.
