May 12, 2005

CALL TO ORDER Council Chairman Ralph Bader called the
meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Pledge of Allegiance was said.
ROLL CALL Members present were: Gerald Peterson, Irene
Burch, Ralph Bader, Richard (Buzz) Marzolf, John Mortensen,
Alice Mullan, Carolyn Weisenburger, Art Feyeriesen and Jeanette
O'Connell. Also present were: Kj ersti Olson, Tracy Davis, Renea
Aeschliman, Gladys Ellefson, Sylvia Heller, Julie Hillstead,
Shirley Marlette, Vivian Keeling, Jan Thompson, Sallie Dull,
Donna Lamson, Bette Norman, Angie Nadeau and Caroline
Yoerg. Excused were Esther Koosman and Rich Peterson.
ADOPTION OF AGENDA A motion was made by John
Mortensen and seconded by Gerald Peterson to adopt the agenda
as printed; motion carried.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on
Thursday, June 16, 2005.
ACTION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES A motion was made by
Irene Burch and seconded by Art Feyeriesen to approve the
minutes; motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Volunteer Banquet: The day was a success with a turnout of
158 volunteers. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal and sense
of togetherness. The Barber Shop quartet did a great job.
Guests enjoyed the group as they sang at each table.
NEW BUSINESS:
Upcoming Events: Senior Celebration is scheduled for
Thursday, May 19 at the Phipps Center for the Arts. Please

encourage people you know to attend. A number of items have ^ ti
been donated for the Faith in Action Silent Auction.
In June, Sue Kramer, Benefit Specialist, will be visiting the
Senior Centers along with a Social Security Representative.
They will be presenting on recent Medicare Part D changes.
Please see attached sheet for reference.
The St. Croix County Fair is scheduled for July 21 to 20'
.
Kj ersti handed out information regarding items that can be
entered in the open -class section for seniors. Poster board for
the Senior Centers' posters will be given out at next month's
meeting.
Resource Specialist Report: Angie Nadeau, who currently
assists the Department on Aging through an ElderChoice Grant,
presented to the Council. She gave a presentation she offers to
the public and to civic groups to expand the visibility of the
Department on Aging.
Volunteer Report: Please see attached listing of needs.
STAFF REPORTS
Ki ersti's Report:
Kj ersti read a proclamation from President Bush for Older
Americans Month. This year is the 40 anniversary of the Older
Americans Act which was signed in 1965.
Kj ersti 1 informed the Council of an opening for a van driver at
the Hudson: Senior Center. Tracy and Kjersti are working on a
Site Van Driver's Manual, which will be similar to the Nutrition
Program Manager's Manual, for the Driver's training on June 29 th .
Kj ersti will be meeting with the Nutrition Program Managers
during the month of June to go over the Nutrition Program Manual
and discuss any questions or concerns.
On May 17 Kj ersti will be attending the Food Safety
ServSafe class in Eau Claire.

Tracy's Report: Fogey Follies is planned for Friday, June rd
The show will feature "songs that won the war ". Thirty tickets
have been reserved, at a cost of $15.00 a ticket. The performance
starts at 1:00 p.m. and a stop for lunch will occur beforehand.
Driver's training will be on June 29
The 2005 Spring Card Tournament finished this month.
Woodville was this year's tournament winner. Hammond/Roberts
came in second with Hudson at third. The 1 St place Center will
receive a case of coffee.
SITE /CENTER REPORTS
BALDWIN Blood Pressure and Foot Care are going well. The
women's card ou plays at 1:00 .m. Armchair exercise has had

4 to 5 participants. Martha Mabis, from UW- Extension, will visit
the site in June to present "Hop on the Grain Train ".
DEER PARK Individuals who attended the Volunteer Banquet
commented that it was lovely. The Van trip to Cabella's was full
and a good time was had by all. Deer Park hosted the last card
party with lots of nice door prizes. That day the Deer Park kitchen
prepared 150 meals between the two other sites and the party.
GLENWOOD CITY: Excused
HAMMOND: All is going well at the Senior Center.
Participants of the card tournament thought it was great. They
really enjoyed it. The trip to Eau Claire has been postponed. Don
Hauser, spouse of Center Board treasurer, passed away.
ROBERTS The Senior Dance will be Friday, May 13 at the
Roberts Senior Center with entertainment by John Mikla from
2:00 p.m. — 4:00 p.m. Attendance at the Site has been low due to
the card tournaments. Julie would like to plan a picnic in July at
the Roberts Park. In the fall she would like to plan a trip to Como
Park. Donna and Julie are planning a volunteer recognition party.
Julie thanked Kj ersti for the Nutrition Program Manager Manual —
it has helped answer many questions.

HUDSON The monthly birthday party attendees were . v
entertained by The Panhandlers. All activities are going pretty
well. The piano player has moved back to Wintergreen and is
once again leading sing -a -longs on Wednesdays. The Nutrition
Program Manual has answered quite a few questions. A trip to
Como Park for a picnic is being planned.
NEW RICHMOND They are finalizing plans with the New
Richmond Y to set up chair exercises.
RIVER FALLS: Foot Clinic is the third Wednesday of the
month and is very popular. Pool isTlayed daily with at least 10
men playing. On Friday, May 20 a volunteer get- together is
planned with a "create your own ice cream sundae bar ". This
event was planned to recognize the Home Delivered Meal
volunteers. On May 31 Jan White, Benefit Specialist from the
Pierce County Department on Aging, and Bruce Running will be
speaking at the Senior Center on the new Medicare Part D.
SOMERSET Seniors are content with the meals and bingo.
Martha Mabis is scheduled to come and present "Hop on the Grain
Train ". Blood Pressure is being done by a participant's daughter.
The Deerfield has attended the meal site at least once a week. 90
people attended the card party that was hosted by Somerset.
WOODVILLE Everything is going well. Blood pressure, cards,
monthly birthday parties, and bingo are all going well.
VAN TRIPS:
Hudson — June sometime— Como Zoo & Lunch at the Park
A motion was made by John Mortensen and seconded by Irene
Burch; motion carried.

starts up on June 23

• Before Memorial Day, Veterans will be out selling poppies to help
Veterans and servicemen's families.
