R%O 11d UNTY RESOLUTION PROVIDING COMPENSATION ADJUSTMENT FOR JUDICIAL ASSISTANT COVER MEMO TO: County Board of Supervisors FROM: Ken Witt, County Administrator DATE: November 1, 2022 AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Providing Compensation Adjustment for Judicial Assistant BACKGROUND INFORMATION This is a unique situation with the promotion of a Judicial Assistant to the Presiding Judge's Judicial Assistant. The County's compensation plan does not take into consideration these circumstances, so direct County Board action is required to adjust employee compensation. Resolution No. 43 (2022) T. R%O 11d .RUNTY RESOLUTION PROVIDING COMPENSATION ADJUSTMENT FOR JUDICIAL ASSISTANT 1 WHEREAS, in January 2016, the St. Croix County Board implemented the McGrath 2 Uniform Compensation Grid for all non-represented employees; and 3 4 WHEREAS, maintenance on the wage grid is needed periodically to maintain equity and 5 to correct issues; and 6 7 WHEREAS, Judicial Assistants are support staff to the Circuit Court Judges and are 8 County employees that are selected by the Judges under authority granted to them by Wisconsin 9 law; and 10 11 WHEREAS, the compensation rules granted to the Human Resources Department and 12 County Administrator do not allow for additional step increases, only placement on the wage 13 grid through an open recruitment hiring; and 14 15 WHEREAS, the unique set of circumstances with the promotion of Ryan Griffin from 16 Judicial Assistant to Judicial Assistant for the Presiding Judge was not contemplated in the 17 creation of the compensation system. 18 19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the St. Croix County Board of 20 Supervisors does hereby approve an additional 3 step increase for Presiding Judge Judicial 21 Assistant Ryan Griffin from Step 5 to Step 8, to be effective at the start of the next payroll period 22 at an annual cost of approximately$3,683.
