Meth Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes — August 22, 2005 Chairman Esther Wentz called meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Agenda — Motion made by Denise, seconded by Katie to adopt agenda as presented. Motion carried. Roll call — Esther announced all members present, except Linda Robertson. Cindy Leonard also was present. Dennis Burton has resigned from committee — no official replacement person is planned. Rich (who attended prior meetings) is speaking to 9 th grade at Osceola about Meth use. Next meeting dates: Tuesday, September 6 @ 3:00 — 4:30 at Government Center Tuesday, September 27 @ 3:00 Meeting minutes: Motion made by Denise, seconded by Katie to approve meeting minutes. Motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Goals — Steve Kirt Steve asked if group was interested in completing tasks already established or continue to develop new goals. Group decided to continue working on tasks already established. Doreen brought in New Richmond newspaper which highlighted 4 pages of Meth information. This is the first issue of a series to be devoted to :Meth. The Meth Proclamation will be sent out to area newspapers to be included in edition just prior to Labor Day. Doreen and Denise spent several days at local fairs passing out candy, buttons and information. Could use more give aways to attract kids. There are 3 more fairs yet this summer. Committee members are asked to sign up for a time to help. Eric suggested running Meth Power Point Presentation at fairs, either on lap top or TV with full screen. His office has all equipment available. Doreen solicits brochures from several agencies and is planning to bundle into packets to be given away. Eric will contact DOJ to request additional materials. Steve asked that all members provide him with a list of events in their areas which would provide an opportunity for our members to participate in those activities. Dennis Hillstead reported a recent Meth arrest that was videotaped and is planned for release in November. P / Doreen reported that she has been receiving calls offering help with MADAM. She is requesting help from our committee connecting people to opportunities. A reservation in Siren has requested T Shirts and buttons. Treasurer Report: Doreen reported a balance of over $1,700. Eric presented binder "Meth In St. Croix County" which has been sent to schools. Doreen informed group of Relapse Prevention Training Seminar in Eau Claire Sept. 23. She will be attending. She also attends Pierce County Drug Court on Tuesday mornings in Ellsworth, which is open to public viewing. Doreen has individual packets of bracelet parts which need to be assembled and is asking for assistance. Cindy Leonard is interested in development of resources for parents, outlining where they can go for help. Steve reported that Hudson Ministerial Association has invited him to attend their meetings and let them know how they can help. Denise suggested a traveling information booth which could be transported to the churches. Highway Clean Up (3 miles in front of Cedar Lake Speedway). All members who are able to participate, meet September 6 at 4:30 after next scheduled committee meeting. Doreen presented information on highway signs. She is getting bids from printers to have 25 bright green 3'x4' signs printed on aluminum, mounted on 2 posts. She is planning to ask businesses in all townships to sponsor a sign at cost of $85 which will include a separate additional sign with business name as sponsor. Highway Dept will only install posts and signs if they also do printing but they will not print our signs in bright green color, as they have that color reserved for crosswalks. A suggestion was made that people from Challenge Incarceration Program erect posts and signs (33' from center line).MADAM may ask for donations. Dennis Hillstead suggested inserting information about signs in next edition of New Richmond newspaper with second article. Committees /Subcommittees: Utilizing Community Organizations Steve (Chair), Katie, Denise, Esther, Doreen, Dave Dave will contact Mark Gherty @ Hudson Rotary Speaker Forum Denise (chair), Research/Literature Members: Linda (chair), Steve, Doreen, Buzz Marzolf Katie showed first draft of brochure. Doreen has an artist who will illustrate brochure. Placement ideas: WITC, UWRF, libraries, clinics, hospitals. Doreen also showed a prototype of a colorful flip brochure with contacts information.
