Meth Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes
September 6, 2005
Chairman Esther Wentz called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m..
Members present: Esther Wentz, Doreen Rivard, Denise Gunderson, Steve Kirt, Linda
Robertson, Katie Deartherage, Eric Johnson, Dennis Hillstead, Barb Nelson, Yvonne
Larsen. Also present were Tom Caflisch, who will be replacing Lori Bernard, and Ann
Davey, Public Defenders Office.
Adoption of Agenda — Motion made by Denise, seconded by Katie. Motion carried.
Esther introduced a new member, Tom Caflisch, who is a St. Croix County Board
Supervisor from River Falls who also serves on Health and Human Services.
Approval of Aug 22 meeting minutes — Barb noted a correction on page 3 where she was
not named on the Media Committee, which she chairs. Motion. made by Katie and
seconded by Steve to approve minutes. Motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Dates and times for future meetings:
Tuesday Sept 27 @ 3:00 p.m. — Room 1281 at Government Center
Monday, Oct 10 @ 3:00 p.m. —
Monday, Oct. 24 @ 3:00 p.m.
Beginning in November, the committee may only meet monthly. This will be decided at
Oct. 10 meeting.
Subcommittee updates:
A. Linkeage Sub committee — Met 8- 31 -05. Steve and Denise will connect with
people they know who were involved in developing Meath programs. Steve will
meet with CCR Treatment Cmte and Denise will meet with resources in New
Richmond. They decided to ask Media Cmte to write news article asking other
community organizations to be involved in Meth education. Steve will be contact
person. More discussion needed on how volunteers can be utilized.
B. Booth Cmte — Doreen advised of Sept and Oct events. MADAM meeting next
week and looking for volunteers to staff booth — at least two people for each
event. MADAM does not need approval from Advisory Cmte to be involved in
community events. MADAM has provided all funds currently in treasury and can
use those funds without Advisory Cmte approval. Drug Awareness is #1 Priority
of both MADAM and Advisory Cmte
Denise asked if both MADAM and St. Croix County should be represented at events.
Esther stated that we are working in partnership and should continue. Denise will
prepare a list of times volunteers are needed and they will be recruited from various
agencies.
Eric asked if everyone had received his email regarding the availability of freebies to be
handed out at events. There is a fee for the items.
Steve asked for a definition of how MADAM relates to Advisory Cmte. After
discussion, a consensus resulted that both organizations are working well together and
should continue.
C . Research Cmte — Met 8- 31 -05. Committee has located much information but
requesting direction about how and where to direct information (ex: should Advisory
Crate prepare info and wait for request, establish library, resource center, etc.). Linda
advised that Hudson library has access to 30,000 items on Meth. She will present info to
Advisory Cmte that she feels will be most helpful to our committee education.
Jail Tour — Sheriff Hillstead arranged for tour, which was very informative. Mark Mikla
was an excellent escort.
