MEDIA COMMITTEE — Barb said there has been a three -part series on Meth in The Shoppers Free Press- Hudson. Barb has prepared a letter of thanks to the editor of the articles, Milt Helmer. WEVR Radio in River Falls continues to air a public service announcement about the needs of the Meth Advisory Committee after the 9am News. Fred Benson makes this announcement after the "Time to Trade" program. Barb said the media committee is discussing what videos and additional messages could be aired on cable stations. She said the Media Committee would address the education needs of specific organizations and age groups at the next meeting. Also, the group will address how to educate other organizations about Meth, not just how to get others to help us. Esther said each Chamber of Commerce has a list of the community organizations with contact names and addresses. Tom said that panels, interactive discussions and interviews are good programs to air on cable. Tom is a good contact person for access to cable stations. There was much discussion regarding educating youth (5h grade) by having each school's police liaison officer incorporate this information in the annual DARE Program. Denise suggested that we invite the police liaison officers to a meeting to discuss including Meth in the Dare Program. Esther said we could contact the individual liaison officers from each school district to attend our Dec. 12 meeting for a round table discussion. Barb suggested that Esther send out the invitational letter. Dennis said the Dare Program is called the Counterpoint Program in St. Croix County and it is for 6 weeks not 12 weeks like the Dare Program. He said that Dana K (counselor at Hudson High School) has set up their own program. Somerset and New Richmond do not have a Counterpoint Program. New Richmond wants to do their own. Dennis suggested that a letter be sent to the police chiefs, principle or counselors of each school. Esther suggested we invite the media to the Dec. 12 meeting. Linda suggested we wait until we find out the results of the meeting. If the group came up with a plan to include information about Meth in their drug education programs this would be newsworthy. Tom suggested we take a picture of the group on Dec. 12 and submit to the papers. Denise said a student at the U of WI in River Falls, Jamie Swiontek is designing a program on Meth Awareness for River Falls and may be willing to do this for St. Croix County. B. BROCHURE COMMITTEE- Katie contacted various printing companies to find out what it would cost to print the brochure. She contacted the St. Croix Press but they do not do this kind of project. Kinko's wanted $1182.15 for 1000 full color brochures. Copy Cat wanted $538.26 for 1000 full color and folded brochures and $100 for 1000 folded, black and white brochures. Esther suggested that Dana Baker, the purchasing agent for the county get an alternative bid. Esther also suggested J &M Printing and Eric suggested RPG. Eric suggested that Katie call Mark Gherty from Rotary Club, as they are interested in financing the brochure. Esther said that Katie put together a very well designed flyer, which asks for interested groups and organizations to partner with St. Croix County in its fight against Meth. A copy of this flyer will be attached to the minutes. C.
