MINUTES - NOVEMBER 14, 2005
Chairman Esther Wentz called the meeting to order at 3:13 p.m.
Esther Wentz — verbal roll call
Members Present: Esther Wentz, Doreen Rivard, Denise Gunderson, Tom Caflisch, Linda
Robertson, Katie Deatherage, Dennis Hillstead, Barbara Nelson, Eric Johnson

Adoption of Agenda — A motion was made by Denise to accept the agenda and Linda made a
second. Motion Carried.
Approval of October 10 meeting minutes — A motion to approve the minutes as amended was
first made by Tom and a second by Barb. Motion Carried.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Barb shared a mailing she received regarding a seminar on "Meth: Assessment, Intervention and
Treatment ". It is directed toward those who want to gain clinical skills necessary to assess,
diagnose and treat clients impacted by meth addiction. It will be held in Eau Claire on February
3, Minneapolis on February 10 and Bloomington, MN on February 17, 2006. For more

Esther shared an article in the National Association of Counties newsletter about new Federal
legislation regarding meth issues. The Methamphetamine Remediation Act (H.R. 798) which
will direct the EPA to establish standards for meth lab clean -up and the Meth Endangered
Children Protection Act (H.R. 2335), which will provide money to state and local governments
to develop Drug Endangered Children teams.
NEW BUSINESS
SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES:
MEDIA COMMITTEE — Barb said the media committee will contact the editors of the
St. Croix County Area newspapers to ask the editors to help us educate the community

about the effects of Meth. Only a couple of the newspapers responded to the articles we
submitted to them during St. Croix County Meth Awareness Month in September.
Barb said the Education and Prevention subcommittee of CCR (Coordinated Community
Response) would meet on Thurs. November 17 at the Hudson Hospital. Linda and
Denise will attend that meeting.
The cable station is airing the flyer prepared by Katie.
Linda Flanders, the producer of the video "Crossing the Line" has given permission to
have her video aired on Cable TV.
The SOS Players have produced a play on Meth. There are some costs involved as well
as transportation costs for performances outside Hudson.
LINKAGE COMMITTEE - .Steve said the committee is looking at ways to utilize the
flyer developed by Katie. The next step is to email community organizations the flyer
and a cover letter, which will explain the ways they can help. Hopefully this will create
more interest and participation. They are in the process of accumulating the email list.
Steve has been in contact with the schools to see if the AODA guidance counselors or
related staff will join the linkage committee in January 2006.
Esther says she has changed the meeting date of the Advisory Committee and the school
counselors and liaison officers from December 12 to January 9. Esther spoke with the
New Richmond Middle School Counselor who was very interested in participating.
Denise asked what the committee would do after we got the word out. Steve said it was
time to revisit our goals.
Denise said the Goodhue County Officer was a good speaker and would like to have him
speak to the Advisory Committee sometime.
BROCHURE COMMITTEE — Katie passed out the latest draft of the brochure for the
committee to review. She would like the committee to email any recommendations for
improvement or change.
She has contacted more printing companies and J &M Printing had the best price. For a
full colored brochure including folding, the price was $336.65 per 1000.
She has been exchanging voicemails with Mark Gherty from the Rotary Club but has not
reached him. We hope the rotary will be interested in funding the brochure.
BOOTH COMMITTEE - Doreen said MADAM had completed the highway clean up.

Doreen said the event at the middle school in St. Croix Falls went well. Tim Schultz was
the speaker. MADAM was well received and Tim Shultz said MADAM could come to
his events anytime. She said Tim Shultz charged $595 for the three presentations.
Dave Parnel (former meth addict) will speak at Hudson High School on Friday.
MADAM would like to have a booth at that event but the high school principal has not
yet returned Doreen's call.
There will be a craft sale at the St. Croix County Health Center dining room in New
Richmond on Friday November 18 and Saturday November 19. The Meth Advisory and
MADAM will have a silent auction.
Madam's website and newsletter will be aired on Cable TV,.
RESEARCH COMMITTEE: No Report
REPORT ON SIGNS — Doreen said the signs are ready. Esther will ask the Town of Star Prairie
for a check.
TREASURERS REPORT- Doreen said she made a deposit of $704 dollars in addition to the
$3076 already in the account. Doreen said that the employees of the Wal -Mart in New
Richmond raised $704 for MADAM.
There was a discussion about how and who was authorized to use the account now that monies
are available. Esther said she would ask the St. Croix County legal counsel for guidelines.
OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Katie said Sam's Club has a "Good Works Program" that has grant money available for non-
profit organizations. She will get information and a form for MADAM.
Dennis said home testing kits for drugs are available through the Polk County Meth Committee.
The kits are $3.06 per test and they test for marijuana and meth.
Denise said there is a website for users and it is www.402.com.
NEXT MEETING'S AGENDA ITEMS: At the December meeting Steve suggested we review
are goals and strategies. Also we will review linkages with other organizations and the brochure.
Meeting Adjourned at 4:30 pm.
