Relating to the Wallace Commission Recommendations
WHEREAS, the Wallace Commission has recommended the consolidation
of some rural counties, and
WHEREAS, consolidation would result in decentralized government,
higher taxes, larger departments and innumerable bureaus, and a sub-
stantial decrease in efficiency due to decentralization, and
WHEREAS, if the Wallace Commission concept is implemented involving
counties with 25!,000 population or less, it will be only a matter o
time before the seventy- two counties of this State will be consolidated
,to create eight Regional administrative districts, thereby abolishing
county and town units of government, and
WHEREAS,, it is a proven fallacy that large units of government
are more efficient and responsive in providing services to the people,
an example thereof being the Federal Government which is the most
inefficient and uncontrollable monster, and
WHEREAS, consolidation of counties would greatly curtail the
citizens accessibility to county facilities and services which currently
exist.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED.thAE the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisoriaobry dohby iorooppo conslidation of counties as proposed by the Wallace Commission,
and . I

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent
to Legislators representing St. Croix County, Governor Patrick J. Lucey,
Executive Secretary of W.C.B.A., Chairman of the Wallace Commission and
to all other county Clerks of this state.
