Resolution
WHE AS, the Hudson Memorial Hospital was established in
1953, and
411EREAS, a convale cent care unit was established with
said hospital in 1963, and
WHEREAS, since 19 3 said convalescent care unit has ex-
panded to furnish a maximum of 84 beds, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Hudson Memorial
Hospital deers it to be in the best interests of said hospital to
discontinue said convalescent care unit, and
WHEREAS, said convalescent care unit is no longer re-
ceiving new patients and will be_phased out over a three year period,
and
'WHEREAS, the citizens of the ara.surrounding Hudson, "Wis-
consin need a convalescent care'faciliy, and
WHEREAS, Wisconsin has a larger percentage of its population
over the agesixty-five than thenation as a whole, and
WHEREAS, the population of St. Croix County grew three per°®
cent from 1977 to 1978 which rats of growth exceeded that of Barron,
Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn,_Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce,
Trempealeau and Rusk Coun i s,
WHEREAS, it is apparant that -the population in the stern
portion of St® Croix County will continue to grow.at a rapid pace, and
WqiEREAS, the nursing homes in River 'Falls, Hammond, and New
Richmond are those nursing o es closest to Hudson, and
WHEREASt said nursing homes are operating near capacity, and
'WHEREAS, the bestinterests of persons needing nursing care
are best served by being able to.reside n a'convalescent care facility
in their local community where -they can best obtain the visits and sup-
port of friends, relatives, ministers and family physicians, and
WHEREAS, the citizens of any community deprived of senior
citizens are deprived of valuable resources, human contacts and experiences,
Now THEREFOREBE IT RESOLVEDthe, St. Croix County Board
of Supervisors, meeting in regular se s ion, that we, the St® Croix County
Board of the State of Wisconsin believe in local convalescent care for
senior citizens in all sections of our county and therefore support.te
citizens of the Hudson area re'presented.by the United Methodist Church
of Hudson in their endeavors to obtain a new convalescent care facility
for their co unity®
