AN AD VALOREM TAX
ON
STATE LANDS
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin is currently involved in acquiring
lands for Wild Rivers management along the Pike, Pine, Popple, Wolf,
Namekagon, and St. Croix rivers; and,
WHEREAS, the Department of Natural Resources is studying and evi-
dently will propose similar status and programs along the Lower Wisconsin,
Black, White, and Flambeau rivers; and,
WHEREAS, the .continued transfer of real estate into a non-taxable
status is increasing the tax burden carried by county -wide private pro-
perties; and,
WHEREAS, additional programs proposing to set aside acreages in
federal wilderness classification will also erode the tax base,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that all lands acquired by the State
of Wisconsin after January 19 1965, shall be appraised, assessed, and the
property tax levied against the State in the same manner and by the same
process as is applied to all private taxable properties in the taxation
district wherein said State properties are located. However, improvements
