COUNTY PAYMENTS TO MUNICIPALITIES
FOR PROTECTION SERVICES
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 986 would require a county to pay for any
police or fire protection services furnished to any county facility by
any town, village or city; and
WHEREAS, such a provision would amount to a tax on county property,
part of which will be taxed backed to the taxing municipality; and
WHEREAS, if this concept is approved for counties it is likely to
be extended to schools, colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, it is felt this concept could have an adverse effect on
where county buildings will be located in the future; and
WHEREAS, a tendency could develop on the part of officials and
employees of a county facility to not request police or fire protection
services in an effort to reduce costs for the facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the St. Croix County Board of
Supervisors, that this Board go on record as being opposed to Assembly
Bill 986; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded by
the County Clerk to Governor Dreyfus, State Senator Radosevich and State
Assemblyman Harer.
