HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1981 (07)i 1 Resolution No. ?( Resolution Regarding Possible Abandonment of the Chicago and Northwestern Transportation Company Line From Hudson to Spooner, Wisconsin WHEREAS, the Chicago and Northwestern Transportation Company has made application to the Interstate Commerce Commission for abandonment of its line running from Hudson Town to Spooner, Wisconsin; and WHEREAS, the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors supports continuation of the said line to serve the people of St. Croix and other counties all said route; and WHEREAS, under Wisconsin law, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has responsibility and authority to determine if there is a state interest in abandoned rail property, including the said route; and t,THEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has sought comments from local government officials regarding to what use the said property should be put if purchased; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors, that if said line must be abandoned, provisions be made to service shippers along such route in alternative ways; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if said line must be abandoned, the State should purchase said right-of-way and develop a trail for non - motorized use, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if a trail cannot be developed presently, the state should purchase said right-of-way to preserve the corridor for future trail use.
