HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1982 (06)RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING INCREASE IN DELINQUENT REAL ESTATE TAX INTEREST RATES
Resolution
WHEREAS, Chapter 74 of the Wisconsin Statutes provides that delin-
quent real estate taxes shall be collected by the County Treasurer with
interest thereon at the rate of one percent per month, and
WHEREAS, this delinquent tax interest rate is insufficient today,
to force taxpayers to pay their real estate taxes when due, thereby con-
tributing to the ever increasing balance owed to St. Croix County by delin-
quent taxpayers, and
WHEREAS, if this interest rate were changed to one and one-half percent
per month, taxpayers would more readily pay their real estate taxes when due,
thereby reducing the balance owed to St. Croix County by the delinquent tax-
payers,
NOW THEREFORE,, BE IT RESOLVED, by the St. Croix County Board of Super-
visors, meeting in regular session, that the Board strongly recommends to
the State Legislature and 'Governor Dreyfus, that Chapter 74 of the Wisconsin
Statutes be amended so that counties collect delinquent real estates with
interest thereon at the rate of one and one-half percent per month, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be mailed by
the County Clerk to Governor Dreyfus,Assemblyman Harer, and State Senator
