COUNTY TAX LEVY LIMITS
WHEREAS, initially, counties found it difficult to work within tax levy
limits; and
WHEREAS, over the years, this Board has learned to limit the increase
in taxes through the levy limitations imposed by the legislature; and
WHEREAS, the legislature has already modified the laws pertaining to
levy limits to make them less restrictive; and
WHEREAS, levy limits would be repealed under the provision of SB 639; and
WHEREAS, this Board feels that the repeal of levy limits may lead to a
shift from state taxes to local property taxes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors,
that this Board go on record as being opposed to SB 639; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded by the
County Clerk to Governor Dreyfus, Assemblyman Harer, and State Senator Hardsdorf.
